I see.
Anyway, if anybody could tell me how to build it up... just to try...
Maybe one day I'll find a more powerful pc... :-)

Hello list,
I've successfully installed ALSA on my server, having two Terratec PHASE 28
cards. The problem is that from all 8 sound outs, the mixer recognises as
stereo pairs only four.
The `amixer -c 0` output is as follows:
Simple mixer control 'Master',0
Capabilities: pvolume pswitch
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
Limits: Playback 0 - 255
Front Left: Playback 255 [100%] [on]
Front Right: Playback 255 [100%] [on]
Simple mixer control 'PCM',0
Capabilities: pvolume pvolume-joined pswitch pswitch-joined
Playback channels: Mono
Limits: Playback 0 - 128
Mono: Playback 128 [100%] [on]
Simple mixer control 'Front',0
Capabilities: pvolume pswitch
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
Limits: Playback 0 - 127
Front Left: Playback 127 [100%] [on]
Front Right: Playback 127 [100%] [on]
Simple mixer control 'Center',0
Capabilities: pvolume pvolume-joined pswitch pswitch-joined
Playback channels: Mono
Limits: Playback 0 - 127
Mono: Playback 127 [100%] [on]
Simple mixer control 'LFE',0
Capabilities: pvolume pvolume-joined pswitch pswitch-joined
Playback channels: Mono
Limits: Playback 0 - 127
Mono: Playback 127 [100%] [on]
Simple mixer control 'Side',0
Capabilities: pvolume pswitch
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
Limits: Playback 0 - 127
Front Left: Playback 127 [100%] [on]
Front Right: Playback 127 [100%] [on]
As you can see, the mixer controls Side and Front are stereo (i.e. have two
channels), but the mixer controls Center and LFE are mono.
The same goes to my second Terratec PHASE 28 card.
Unfortunately, I had installed the same versions of ALSA and the channels were
OK. But after I reinstalled my server - the Center and LFE stereo channels
became mono.
I'm using ALSA drivers 1.0.9, ALSA utils 1.0.9 and ALSA lib 1.0.9.
Has anyone solved this problem? I need 4 stereo channels but not 2 stereo and
2 mono.

Hi,
I'm testing Demudi Live v 1.2.1, hope the response is not hidden by my
nose, I'd like to run the live-system from hard drive instead of runing
from CD-Rom.
I use parameter fromhd=/dev/my_partition or bootfrom=my_iso_image.iso
with KNOPPIX to speed up access, is there a similar cheatcode for this
Demudi Live version ?
With many thanks,
Jody
Hi there,
could someone help me to get started with Linux on my Laptop?
I want to have a look at Ardour and if you could point me to an OS and how
to install what, then that'd help me a lot.
I have an older system CPU 1.2 GHz and 90something RAM, also my soundcard
works with Asio drivers and USB.
If you could help me with this, I'd be very grateful,
Cheers,
Favio

Hi All,
New music at http://allie.opensrc.org
Finally got a new track to put up. "Haunted Hope" is the piece I am most
happy with to date. It is a bit different to to my previous work - more
melodic, more interesting harmonically and rythmically. (I think so
anyway).
It was also composed and mixed differently, using muse and ardour for
the first time. Because of instabilities with ardour on my machine, the
final mix ended up being done with ecasound. (I've got a mostly-working
python script to read the ardour file and produce an almost-equivalent
ecasound ecs file.)
Midi files:
I've uploaded midi files for each of the 4 pieces on my site - they are
in the midi_files directory. Please feel free to download the midi files
and use them in whatever way you like. I'd be *really* interested in
hearing other people's renderings of the pieces.
MP3 files:
I've added mp3 versions of each track for those that prefer that format.
They are available in the mp3 directory.
New Mixes:
Updated mixes of the first 3 pieces, "Can't Beat Them", "Takes Two", and
"Feeling Slow". The changes include:
* More interesting drum and bass lines.
* Better drum sounds (Natural Studio nskit7).
* Better mixing and mastering after doing some actual reading on the
subject.
* New synth sounds - using ams and zynaddsubfx now. Both are fantastic
softsynths.
If you heard these pieces before I'd love to hear your comments on the
new mixes.
Also, on my wiki page at musicians.opensrc.org I've put a list of gear I
am thinking of buying over the next year or so. I'd welcome any comments
people have on quality/value-for-money/suitability etc.
Cheers,
Stuart
Hi folks,
I'm an absolute newbie to Linux. I installed the latest "musix" distro
in the Knoppix mode and I've got a Gina24 that is not recognized by the
alsaconfig tool. What do I have to do to get it running?
Thanx a lot in advance!
All the best, FRitz
Hi. Has anyone got sineshaper installed on FC3? I'm having the most terrible
dependency problems. gtkmm, then glibmm, and the list of deps goes on and on.
I thought that Fedora extras handled thes deps, but adding the urls to yum
for the fedora extras hasn't solved it. Yum says gtkmm doesn't exist. I'm not
knocking anything. I'd just like to get sineshaper working, as it sounds like
a good synth. Any tips, hints. Nigel.
I am looking to purchase a nice soundcard for the laptop. What is the
verdict on the Edirol Firewire stuff? How about the USB2 stuff? I'm
especially interested in products like the FA101 or UA101.
Will this type of soundcard have better physical latency than my integrated POS?
Also interested in any other ideas.
Hi all,
This is my first post here, so hello everybody. I'm running
PlanetCCRMA's FC3 distro (low-latency kernel
2.6.11-0.3.rdt.rhfc3.ccrma) on an Athlon 64 3000+ w. an NF4 chipset.
As far as sound goes, I'm using the integrated CK804 (w. snd-intel8x0
drivers) and an RME HDSP9652 (w. snd-hdsp).
The questions:
1. I've read a lot about getting the IRQ of the soundcard to as high a
priority as possible. How important is this? Is it possible with
setpci if I reserve an IRQ in the BIOS, or only by swapping cards?
2. Should I enable or disable APIC? I've heard muddy answers, but
what I know is that it always leaves my HDSP9652 at IRQ's from 16-20.
Here's the output of cat /proc/interrupts.
# cat /proc/interrupts

3. Would you recommend I set my first soundcard to be the CK804 or
should I leave the RME as the first soundcard?
4. Should I just disable the CK804 and throw in an emu10k1? Becuase I
could do that, too.
Any help would be appreciated, and if I left something out, let me
know. Thanks!
