Hi
Having solved the basic problem of getting audio going, the next step is
the annoying fact that qjackctl doesn't appear in gnomes pager nor is it
included in the list scrolled by ctrl-TAB. If I run openbox it works
fine.
This Ubuntu 7.04 with qjackctl 0.2.21, jack 0.102.20, and gnome (dunno
which version) installed from the regular ubuntu repo.
I was hoping some else experienced this oddity, and found a solution...

Hi
I trying out ubuntu with ubuntustudio kernel. In debian I always set the
priority of the IRQ's using
chrt -f -p 85 `pidof "IRQ 8"`
However that doesn't work in ubuntu. The reason is that there seems to
be no process named "IRQ 8":
atte@ajstrup:~$ ps aux | grep -i IRQ
root 3 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? SN 13:43 0:00
[ksoftirqd/0]
atte 6274 0.0 0.0 2884 772 pts/0 R+ 13:51 0:00 grep -i
irq
Whereas on debian I would get:
atte@ajstrup:~$ ps aux | grep IRQ
root 18 0.2 0.0 0 0 ? S< 13:34 0:00 [IRQ 9]
root 261 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? S< 13:34 0:00 [IRQ 4]
root 286 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? S< 13:34 0:00 [IRQ
12]
root 300 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? S< 13:34 0:00 [IRQ 1]
root 608 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? S< 13:34 0:00 [IRQ
11]
root 761 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? S< 13:34 0:00 [IRQ
14]
root 787 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? S< 13:34 0:00 [IRQ
15]
root 1592 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? S< 13:34 0:00 [IRQ 8]
root 1593 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? S< 13:34 0:00 [IRQ 7]
root 1683 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? S< 13:34 0:00 [IRQ
10]
atte 4672 0.0 0.0 2848 704 pts/1 R+ 13:41 0:00 grep
IRQ
I suspect it has something to do with "ksoftirqd" which according to the
man page seems to be a daemon handling irqs.
http://tapas.affenbande.org/wordpress/?page_id=40 also doesn't seem to
take ksoftirqd into account.
So my question is: How do I set the priorities in ubuntu? Is it
possible/clever/stupid to get rid og ksoftirqd and get things working
the way I'm used to under debian, and if so how?

I'm using hydrogen and creox as inputs to ardour but they output at
levels that make ardour clip when recording....how can I lower there
output levels but maintain a high volume for jamming to??
Hi folks,
This is one I made last year. On the evening of a September 13th to
be precise. It is about the shooting at Dawson College (Montreal,
Quebec).

Extraneous information:

Note: all attempts to upload a .ogg file to Geocities reported
'unsuccessful upload'. I had to convert the ogg file to mp3 to get it
right.
Cheers.
Hi
I'm gonna do a live performance (involving acoustic bass, hardware
synths and alot of linux audio). I recently stumbled upon the goom
visualization plugin in xmms, and since I don't have the skills or time
to do much more, I thought it would be nice to hace a couple of
projectors show something visuals based on what we play.
However, it seems that it's not possible to run goom as a stand-alone
application. Also I'd like to throw some of my own graphics in the mix
as well.
What are my options?

I found a bug with LVM and 64Studio installation, and the developers
said they had never tried LVM so had never run across it. Which begs
the question: Is LVM inefficient to use with a DAW?
Actually, my computer has an IDE drive with LVM for the system disk, and
a large SATA drive with just ext3 (no LVM) for data. I usually use LVM
for my system disk and for swap because it's so much easier to manage
multiple distributions that way, and resize partitions easily and quickly.
So is it bad to use LVM for the DAW data disk?
Is it bad to use LVM for the root disk if the audio isn't being written
there?
Is LVM inefficient when we are talking about things like multiple
channels of audio in ardour, recording 8 channels at a time, that sort
of thing?
Please shed some light on this for me.

Hi again,
QjackCtl 0.3.1a (unstable-qt4) crash-fix released!
This is an emergency crash-fix release and everyone is envited to ditch
yesterdays one.
The change-log just says it all:
- An immediate showstopper crash upon client start was irradicated,
which was affecting those with the system-tray icon disabled,
as is the default (thanks to Ken Ellinwood for first reporting
this sloppy one).
Again, the fix source tarball is made available from:
http://qjackctl.sourceforge.nethttp://sourceforge.net/projects/qjackctl
Cheers && Enjoy,

Is there a good app for doing loop / sample speed / sample alignment
music? Perhaps similar to acid, wihtout the automatic beat-stretching.
It has been asked "is there a linux ACID" before. There isn't, but
i'm interested in how people are doing this sort of music if at all.
The usual band of suspects:
ALSA
JACK
Ardour
LADSPA
JAMin
Katrina is a song I wrote about a week after the storm. This is my
daughter's first experience recording so she was a bit nervous. I've
licensed this under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0
License so have fun.
