Hello!
Fons, I wonder hwo far the text-interface for aeolus has progressed. I just
installed aeolus-0.8.0 and started it with the "-t" option. But I can't do
very much with it, except start. This is a pity!
Can anyone help me here?
Kindest regards
Julien

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer me.
I am a novice linux user and would basically like to know how to do the
following, and any applicable advice you can give me.
I would like to use my jacklab box as a midi controller as follows:
pc #1: midi-out => jacklab box: audiophile 2496 midi-in => jacklab box:
motherboard joystick port => external keyboard synth
The audiophile works fine, I now would like to get the joystick port working
with midi. I have read that I need to use the snd-mpu401 driver and at
http://www.ale.org/archive/ale/ale-2005-02/msg00641.html have seen how to
configure it.
My questions are as follows:
1) is the alsa recompilation necessary in jacklab? Is there another way to
get alsa to recognize the interface as a midi device in jacklab or is this
the way to go...
2) upon getting the joystick port to work as a midi port, should I expect
rosegarden to play nicely and see the new interface? I understand it
*probably* should...
3) can I expect the joystick port and soundcard to both work well at the
same time or should I just get an external midi interface (eg, midisport).
The jacklab box is a P4/1.6ghz/768 MB if it pleases you to know...
Thanks for any help...I just don't want to play around with this stuff to
find out it doesn't work well.
Hi all. I'm new here so I figured I'd introduce myself.
I'm using fully upgraded Fedora Core 7 (Kernel 2.6.23.15-80) on a 2.4GHz Intel P4 in a Compaq which has a sound card integrated on the motherboard. lscpi reports it as being an 'Intel 82801DB/DBL/DBM AC'97 Audio Controller.' Which works fine.
However, I dual boot XP, for which I sometimes have a USB I/O audio device (Alesis Multimix) connected. If I happen to forget to disconnect the mixer before I boot into Linux, the mixer is made the default audio device, and all reference to my internal sound card is removed. If I shut down, remove the USB mixer, and reboot, there is NO sound card available. If I run 'system-config-soundcard' I can get it to work again after clicking on 'autodetect', even though that is what it was already set at. Even then, Under the "PCM Devices" boxes, there are none available. Even without a PCM device available, I can play .wav files, so I guess I don't understand what the PCM output device does.
Is there a way to prevent the mixer from being made the default (and only) audio device if I happen to mistakenly leave it connected? And what happened to my PCM devices?
I searched fairly extensively, but all the things I found had to do with sound cards not working at all. Oddly enough, the mixer worked flawlessly under Linux the first time and was easier to configure than it was under XP. I just want the configuration to revert to the internal sound card after I unplug the mixer.
Any help on this?? I've only been using Linux (this time) for about 5 months, and I guess I'm just not understanding what program is changing this, or why.

Can you give a screenshot of the jackconnections in either jack connect
or patchage?
Hello,
This is my first post on this list, so I guess I've to present myself.
I'm ORL, founder and member of the FREE label AMMD (www.ammd.net) which
cares about bands and artists producing free arts with some social,
ecological, shares, and so on principles!
This label has already produced some CDs (Sebkha-Chott's debut and
second albums, Mel-P's maxi and La Muette's firts album), and is
currently building a free studio to produce free arts only. I think I'll
get back to that subject on the list later.
And I'm also bass player and singer in Sebkha-Chott
(www.sebkhachott.net) a French avant-garde and experimental metal band
quite theatralized.
I work under Debian for years now, but I have been doing quite less
concerning audio (essentially composition with Rosegarden/Lilypond).
I think I'm gonna redempt right now!
Regards,

Hi all,
i've been making some streming of ogg files with icecast2 for a local
radio, and it's doing the job very well. But i'm planning to make a
"true" radio program and i need to talk between tracks. So what i need
is a software capable to pick audio (voices in most cases) from my
soundcard's mic/line input and stream it to an icecast2 server.
I've been trying to use muse from dyne.org without success. Does
anyone had success with it or maybe with another software?
Thanks, see you in the waves ;)
fabi.
Version 2.3 of jack-keyboard can be downloaded from:
http://pin.if.uz.zgora.pl/~trasz/jack-keyboard/jack-keyboard-2.3.tar.gz
List of changes is here:
http://pin.if.uz.zgora.pl/~trasz/jack-keyboard/changelog.html
jack-keyboard is a virtual MIDI keyboard - a program that allows you to
send JACK MIDI events (play ;-) using your PC keyboard. It's somewhat
similar to vkeybd, except it uses JACK MIDI instead of ALSA, and the
keyboard mapping is much better - it uses the same layout as trackers
(like Impulse Tracker) did, so you have two and half octaves under your
fingers.

You have a ground loop in your system.
First a warning, whatever you do: do NOT disconnect any earthing pins from
any equipment to defeat the loop. Doing such things will put you and your
equipment at danger.
You can try a few things, like connecting your laptop PSU and amp power to
adjacent terminals. This can help if your laptop PSU is earthed.
The best solution (and the one which works almost every time) is to use a
transformer to isolate the laptop and the PA system. This can be in the form
of a specialized transformer isolator (available usually with RCA-RCA
connectors) or a stereo DI box with a ground lift switch.
Sampo
Hello.
Part of my group project involves a music playing system. What we have
is a bunch of stages connected together with buffers and pipes. The
first stage decodes an mp3 file with mplayer and sends the raw audio
down the pipe in 44.1KHz 16bit. No headers are ever sent (as far as I
know). What I'm trying to do is add an EQ stage. The problem is that the
samples which come in seem to be equalised to the maximum level possible
with 16bit. Therefore if I increase the volume of any band it will cause
clipping. The only solution I can think of at the moment is to just EQ
down, but that sucks a bit.
Can anyone shed some light on what it is I'm doing wrong?
Thanks.
Simon
