You might want to see if putting everything on the same circuit helps. I assume the laptop is in another room so run an extension cord to where the other equipment is and plug-in at the same place.

I just wanted to add a warning. If you are using Ubuntu Studio Hardy Fl 4 there are several sound problems, and you should check the bugs reports.

Hello list, When playing with my band in the bandroom, I'm recording the whole session with ardour and playing the phasex resp. zynaddsubfx via a midi keyboard. To do this, the outputs of my external soundcard (m-audio fast track pro) are plugged into the PA. Because the sound is very much amplified, an incredible noise can be heard when no one's playing, approximately as loud as two people talking (yes, it's very annoying!) - however, yesterday I noticed that this only happens when my laptop is AC-powered! If it runs on batteries, it's completely silent and there's no noise in the background. Now, before I start fiddling around, is this because of a poorly shielded powersupply? Or is this problem related to the shielding of the laptop? How can I build an effective shielding? Greetings Matthias

CD/DVD archieve software

This may be a little out of subject but, I'm looking for a software for Linux that can, Read the file structure from any CD or DVD and put it in to a database so that i can search my files and find out in which cd it is. When it was with windows i was using "Whereisit". cd text (toc) capable cd writer

hallo list, i would like to know if any of you is aware of an cd-writer which is able to write the cd text, especially TOC or CUE files. i am working on a laptop, so the best would be to get a writer with an usb connection. i tried already some more models than a built in of my laptop, but none of them was able to write cd text. also searching in a web about characteristics of some models, i did not found anything about TOC. any help / advice would be very appreciated. cheers, doc

Hydrogen Layer overlapping

I want to make a library of Turkish percussions with Hydrogen. But when i overlap layers, Hydrogen chooses to play just one of them. Not 2 or more overlapped layers at the same time. Time of music in a seqennser

I am trying to make music on Linux for two weeks now. I am using LMMS I am also reading alot and but I can t find an answer to some questions. 1) If I want to make some music like Jean Michel Jarre did, Can i do this in LMMS or do I need aditional soft synths and or more plugins ? LMMS seems to be very techno orientated ? Something about time. Can LMMS play music like some Jazz, whih in time is 4/6 ? or 2/3 ? I think I can do everything as long as its even, but I wonder if I can play 2/3 and things like 7/8 and so on with a sequenser ? (not that I am any close to play this kind of complicated music yet) 2) This question comes from some playing around, and listening to Jarre. Qxygene 4 there is a sound which does not come at regular intervals. (not regular as in 4/4) I found out how to use the piano roll for beats too, but I can;t figure out how to get oneven timing. 3) Can I use vst plugins without wine ? Greeting Guus

Hey I was wondering if there was some definitive resource on the subject, mostly I'm interested in the application of AI concepts to music. I know of Computer Music Journal, and Leonardo may have done an article on it at some point as well. Just wondering if y'all knew a good place to look (yes I do know about this "google"). In the interest of transparency: yes, this is regarding spicing up a paper for an AI class.

Hi, I use ams now for my realtime guitar effects. Some guys says that Ingen is an option too and that it is more up to date... Some with experience with Ingen here? Anyone who has a *.deb of Ingen? [PATCH] JACK 0.109.2 alsa device disconnect patch

Hi all, I just fitted Sean Meiners' alsa device disconnect patch for JACK 0.109.2. It enables jackd to detach from the ALSA device, letting its use by other non-JACK programs whilst in the middle of a jack session, without closing jackd and its clients. IMHO very useful for i.e common builtin laptop soundcards which don't support more than one alsa-direct audio app at once (also commonly known as "no hardware mixing soundcards"). You get an additional example client: jack_device_connect (based on jack_freewheel, its arguments are "y" or "n") which you use to make jack release and re-hook to the audio card. Time is paused and all audio from jack is of course muted and jackd and its client applications are put into this fake-freewheel mode while jack has released the device; they continue producing and consuming audio upon jackd re-attaching to the audio device, with the command "jack_device_connect y". The original version was for jack 0.100.0, I just modified it to make it patch successfully on jack 0.109.2. I don't have so advanced programming skills to understand its inner working, but from a quick read of the code, for what I can understand, I saw it mainly adds some functions in jackd (jack_device_disconnect() and jack_device_connect()in jackd/engine.c) and libjack (jack_set_connected() in client.c, jack_driver_nt_disconnect() and jack_driver_nt_connect() in driver.c) to dis/connect to the alsa device. I was asked on this list about the interaction of this patch with realtime watchdogs. I didn't encounter any problem, they were never triggered (and no crashes or weird things ;) ) as in normal operation, because they enter this freewheeling-like mode. I contacted Sean and asked him if it was this way, and he replied: >As I remember, that's pretty much it. It puts jack into something like >freewheel mode (so that jack clients don't freeze up). And then shuts >down the alsa driver. As for the watchdog, I don't remember anything >about that, but if I had to guess I'd say it's because jack is put into >a fake-freewheel mode. Hope it is useful to who wants to try it: just use jack_device_connect n and voila, you can watch youtube videos or use that strange non-jack aware application you need in that moment, _without_ closing any jack program. When you're done, just use jack_device_connect y and enjoy all your JACK work just where you left it. I should perhaps rename the jack_device_connect jack_alsa_connect... Wanna try it?
