Hey
What would you bee using if you should record a large music file in
let's say 14-16 tracks ? Next month my band have a live-gig I want to
record, and I am on the brink of letting my old and heavy ADAT tape
machines be left back, and only bring my notebook and my multiface amd
my mic-preamps for recording.
Is it stable and secure to record in Ardour in one go ? I could raise
latency since we're not using any kind of live monitoring from the
computer.

Hi
I just brainstormed with a friend and came up with the idea of
integrating the audience in my chuck based electronica performance. All
of the music is parameterized anyways, and since chuck understands OSC,
I thought this might not be so difficult. I do realize that it's not
easy though, especially since I have no experience with this.
So I'm looking for some way to let the audience affect "something" that
sends data to chuck (preferably by osc). Hopefully something that'll
allow a crows (at least more than a handful) of people to interact in a
way that they can actually recognize they're in fact affecting the
music, although no in a precise, "solo-instrumentalist" kind of way,
more of a collective gesture.
I googled a bit, but didn't hit anything useful (maybe because I don't
know how to ask), so did anyone here try something similar? Any tips,
hints, software, approaches, not-tos, links, whatever would be highly
appreciated.
Anyways a few thoughts:
1) Something that reads from an usb-device and sends OSC would (I think)
be easiest to handle.
2) I keep coming back to a web-cam based solution, since it's easy to
carry and setup + all tweaking is done in software, as opposed to
building some huge, DIY hardware controller. We already have a VJ, so e
could project some of the input to provide visual feedback to the audience.
3) Another possibility is using some of the other ready-to-use,
mass-produced (= cheap) controllers readily available, like a dance-mat
(although that is limiting the amount of people able to interact with
the system at the same time). Are there any obvious devices I should
look into?

At last! Those years of nuclear bomb testing finally paid off - we're
hereby releasing /Sinfonia For The Blunt Sword/. Yes, it took quite some
time - all the music production and composition over the years drove us
insane in the end. So here it is, our work of brutal beauty: It's
possibly the soundtrack for taking your M1 Abrams on a lowride in your
damned Metropolis before flipping it over your neighbor's SUV.
If you dig Ulver, Venetian Snares, Amon Tobin or classics like Philip
Glass and Brian Eno, this might be for you!
Get it for *free (CC) *@ karhumusic.org <http://www.karhumusic.org> ,
available as MP3, OGG, FLAC.
And yes, it is really good.
Done with Renoise/Ardour2/PD/Csound+Some Windows audio-tools running on
Virtualbox (hope that counts ;))
Enjoy,

Hi,
First is it possible to reply a thread if you removed all the messages
from your inbox?
Thanks for the advices for me about soundcards, mixers, mics and preamps.
I've bought a m-audio audiophile 2496 and a shure sm 58 and today I got
a M-audio dmp 3 by post. I couldn't find a dmp 3 second hand in europe
so I ordered one from the Us :p ... Today the postman arrived and he
asked 25 euro's import costs :(
That makes the dmp 3 117 euro's for me... if he works well it's better
then the 160 euro's new ;)
Are there things I should take care of when I'm gonna use the shure sm
28 and a guitar with the dmp? The mic and guitar doesn't need phantom
power is it?
Other things to be alert of?
Thanks in advance,
D
Hi,
When I was making a tutorial for QjackCTL I was wondering about the
names of the midi tabs in 'connect'. I learned that you have two types
of MIDI on Linux, Midi-jack (MIDI) and Midi-ALSA(ALSA). I found the
names of the tabs not really logical and a bit confusing. Why could I
find my MIDI connections in the ALSA tab and not in the MIDI tab?
I suggest to change those names to MIDI-jack and Midi-alsa or JMIDI and
AMIDI or whatever, to make it more clear.
And can somebody explain met the forward function in PAtchbay?
And what is the difference between Transport Time Code and Transport BTT
in Display?
Is there a document which explains ALL the features and settings of
QjackCTL?
Hello,
As I will soon be recording my new album, I'd like to work a bit at
home.
I've got a (very bad) embedded audio soundcard at home, which is based
on NVidia CK084.
I've got a RT kernel, work on Debian, with Rosegarden (for notations
edition and MIDI playing) and ardour (in order to record my voices, and
to hear them right after).
All is OK by that side, I work with a latency of 2.5ms, and it's widely
sufficient for what I want to do at that time.
On the hardware side, I've got a TL-Audio preamp, which I link to the
only one input of my sound card, and on which I plug my mic. My gains
are OK on it, and output level is fine.
The fact is, as one could guess, when I chose input device as "default"
in jack, I have very poor sound, very low, with big noise. So, I'd like
to adapt it for a non-line-level input, and I've chosen NVidia CK084 Mic
ADC as an input device. But the problem is that, with this choices,
Xruns don't stop, and finally jack stops!
I really don't need a good system, as it's only for some training, but
if I cannot hear what I sing, it doesn't serve in any way.
Does someone as an idea about what to do to get a higher input level,
without having so much Xruns.
Thanks.

Hello everybody!
I am trying to get a RME Multiface working under Linux (ubuntu with RME
Cardbus on Notebook). At the moment I managed to get the first 2 channels
playing and recording by adressing them as plughw:1/ plughw:1,0 or
plughw:1,0,0. If I change the numbers to plughw:1,1 or so to adress channels
3+4 it doesn't work.
Is anybody out there who already has his Multiface working and can give any
help?
Thank you for reading!
Martin
