- An issue which prevented Jackbeat to compile on recent 64bit Linux systems
has been fixed. This affected Fedora 13, Ubuntu 10.10, Arch Linux and
possibly others.
- Jackbeat doesn't try and connect to PulseAudio by default anymore, since this
may hang on certain systems. The PulseAudio output driver must be explicitly
selected in the preferences.

I had compiled some of this stuff into custom kernels to solve the previous
outbreak. Seems I should not need to do this and stock linux-images should
work. Anyone had this and fixed it?
Hello everyone!
I'm just now trying to build the kh branch of icecast and ices. I managed to
build icecast2, but now I'm in trouble. There are several libs (directories in
the kh branch:
net
thread
libshout
m4
ices
icecast
Unfortunately some directories (net, thread) don't contain a configure
script. Perhaps they are just included with the other builds? When I try to
compile libshout I get this error messag:
log/log.h no such file or directory.
In icecast I had no timing handler, although I have gettimeofday. So I
edited the sourcecode a bit. Not sure if this is the desireable way of doing
it. :-)
Could someone help me a bit? Some documentation on how to do it would be
enough. but I didn't see any, only the svn link and the list of special
features (like jack plugin for ices).
Help-seekingly yours
Julien

Hi there,
I've compiled paulstretch on ubuntu 10.4, but I can't get any sound from it.
I even compiled myself portaudio and uninstalled pulsaudio and tried again
to work with paulstretch, but I didn't solved the problem.
Is there an incompatibility with alsa or portaudio?
Hi, I can't remember reading anything about this, so I hope you can
help me out. I upgraded my RT kernel from my old trusty 2.6.31.12-rt20
that I had been using for a good while, and up to 2.6.33.7-rt29. Now,
when I try to record anything in ardour, the input volume is below
audible. The indicators on my sound card suggest the sound is close to
clipping level, which earlier has been more than enough, and the sound
is indeed coming through, since when I normalize whatever I have
recorded in ardour, what I actually played shows up. Any ideas what
might be causing this?
Regards,
Arve
Hi all,
I'm sure this has been discussed many times, so sorry for
re-iterating... but I guess new drivers and products come out each day,
so here you go:
I'm looking at external audio cards (for use with my laptop) especially
to do multichannel (balanced!) output
- Obviusly they should work with linux-jack (ubuntu if there are any
issues with this distro)
- at least 8 balanced outputs
I'm looking at
these:http://www.echoaudio.com/Products/FireWire/index.php possibly in
the second-hand market and because they are listed as "full support" on
the ffdao site.
Any other experience advice is very welcome
Bests,
Lorenzo.

Right, for audio a dualcore with 4 GB will do imo, but I might need some
extra power for other work.
Another aspect of a pc for audio is noise. I was wondering, might it be
possible to use a long cable to my pc monitor and place my pc in another
room. Will there be any degradation of the quality of the visual display
with a long >= 5m. cable?

Good.

I'm not certain where that compressor comes from. If it's an
audacity built-in, then I wouldn't know if it could be used with
ardour, nor how to do that. But, I suspect that it can't be used
with ardour; that's just my guess. Are there any of the LADSPA
compressors which suit your needs? Those could be used with both
audacity and ardour.
Sorry to not be much help....
