Hello Q!
Thanks for releasing the Gigatron publicly now. It's been a great pleasure
to play it and see it grow. And it makes one appreciate the work, that goes
into such a thing.
but you might think about changing your sender name from Q to at least a
nick. Since your list mails invariably land in my spam folder. It would be a
pitty, if people missed this only because of stupid mail software.
Tronnily yours

====================================================================
I'm using the 2.6.37-0.dmz.6-liquorix-686 #1 ZEN SMP PREEMPT kernel
so I'm assuming that it's looking for the mad.h file - which is located
here:
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.37-0.dmz.6-liquorix-686/include/config/infiniband/user/mad.h
so 2 questions:
=================
q1: where do I change the path to the 'mad.h' file of the kernel I'm using?
q2: where can I get a copy of the 'mxml.h' file? which is not on my hard
drive
I've also been having some issues with xruns (mostly while using the
zynaddsubfx synth) and have been fiddling with my Jack settings to see
if I can minimize them
current settings: RT=true; Priority: 89; Frames: 1024; SR: 44kHz,
Periods/Buffer: 3; and my latency is 69.7mS
-- I'm using the 2.6.36-3.dmz.2-liquorix-686 kernel
---------------------------------------------------------------
-- another weird anomaly is that I get clicks from the zynaddsubfx synth
engine when pressing more than one or two keys at once or when going
from one key to another -- mostly heard on pads...this happens
intermittently and doesn't happen all the time
settings in my limits.conf file:
==================================
/etc/security/limits.conf
@kim - rtprio 99
@kim - memlock unlimited
settings in my audio.conf file:
================================
/etc/security/limits.d/audio.conf
the same parameters are # commented out in the 'audio.conf' file
do they need to be uncommented out?
not sure why there exist two places and whether having one location is
sufficient...?
is there a thread or page where Jackd optimization is discussed in detail?
I've read the Jack FAQ http://jackaudio.org/faq
but it would be helpful if there was something outlining how to adjust
all the various params to minimize xruns for various work environments...
i.e.
synth programming
duplex 16 track recording
laptop performance
podcast
etc
I'm going to be mixing a new Better Than Lahar record, and decided to grab the latest goodies from Fons. However, kokkinizita.net appears to be down. I'm gettin gconnection refused errors from two different networks (Sprint and SBC/AT&T).
Any idea what's up?

Hi Ross,
thx for replying. I've tried a lot of stuff already to make it work again. My
file systems
are all OK, I tried the "repair" option in the folder properties and what not.
But I think I may have solved the problem by readjusting the options of the
"View" menu.
"View: Topics->All; News->All; Sort-> by Date | increase | grouped by topic"
Again, thanks for trying to help ;)

The "cursor-moves-while-playing" flag is with-tracking-cursor. It defaults
to false currently -- perhaps I should change that. You can set it in the
preferences dialog (under "Cursor", "track current location while playing"),
or via (set! (with-tracking-cursor) #t). I've used about a half dozen names
for this over the years -- the word "track" has so many meanings in computer
music that I have tried to avoid it.
I've added an easy way to play the selection looped (in the current
daily tarball or the CVS sources). In older versions, if you have the
context-sensitive menus loaded, right click in the selection, and choose
"Loop play". Otherwise you need to run the code that performs that operation
(see popup.scm). But as I say, it's easier now in the new Snd version.
There's also an arrow for "play from the cursor".
The preferences dialog complaint that a module isn't loaded is harder
to fix because you can run different versions of Snd, and the dialog
is tailored to whatever is currently loaded, but saves the preferences
in some file like ~/.snd_prefs_s7 which is loaded by any version. The complaint itself
arises because you're asking for some feature that depends on a
module (the Gtk/Motif bindings for example) that isn't loaded in the
Snd you're currently running, and that can't be found as a run-time loadable
library. I think I'll change the dialog to provide settings only for stuff
that is always available. (And I'll move a lot of that stuff into the basic
Snd).
Hello all,
Last week my mail and web host (Hosteurope in Germany) blocked my accound due
to failed credit card payments. I got no notice of this until it was
too late, and the
result is that I can't re-activate my account or even start a new one.
For anything urgent you can reach me via the gmail address used to
send this messsage.
I looking out for a new host, and hope to have the website online
before the end of the
week.
Ciao,

Thanks for the kind words about Snd! If any of you have the
time and inclination, I'd like to hear how Snd should be changed
to make it easier to use. My main interest is in the sound
processing, not the user interface (which I guess is painfully obvious),
and I use Snd mainly to work on synthesis. I almost never
try to, for example, edit a recording. Right now, the gtk version
is in transition from gdk to cairo and gtk2 to gtk3, so it's a worse
mess than usual. But, it's a good time to make major changes!

To be honest, i don't know, how this feature works at all, since i never experimented with such thing.
all for papers and workshops: Pure Data Convention 2011
Paper draft submission: March 28, 2011
Notification of acceptance: May 16, 2011
Final Paper submission: July 11, 2011
The 4th Pure Data Convention will be held August 08-14, 2011, at Liszt School of Music and Bauhaus-Universität in Weimar, Germany. In custom of the previous conventions we invite you to submit your papers related to the Pure Data programming environment in the fields of computer science, artistic creation and scientific research. The papers will be rated according to academic standards such as novelty and relevance in a peer review process. The Pd community is a heterogeneous group of users, developers, authors, artists, musicians, programmers; often in more than one role at a time.
Papers from widely divergent perspectives are encouraged. Some possible topics could include:
- Libraries and externals extending Pd
- Tools built in or for Pd
- Education
- Spatialisation
- Pd on mobile devices
Pd embedded in games and applications
Pd as a framework for audiovisual works
Please check the website for the of terms of submission. Templates for the Papers (LaTeX, Open/LibreOffice) will be provided soon on the conventions home page:
http://www.uni-weimar.de/medien/wiki/Pure_Data_convention_2011
The conference is held in English, thereby the papers have to be in English. The length of a paper should be 4-8 pages, including an abstract (50-100 words) and up to 5 keywords.
Proposals for workshops of all levels, from beginner to special interest, may be directed my email to max.neupert at the domain uni-weimar.de
A separate call for music, performances and artworks will follow soon.
Please feel free to forward this e-mail to anybody who might be interested!
