Hi list,
I have been search the archives and the web a bit and it seems there is
no easy way to route html5 audio playback from firefox through jack on
Debian testing.
Is this still the case or has there been recent development that might
enable it? What would have to be done to make it work? This
functionality is the last piece in my puzzle to finally get rid of
flash.
thanks for pointers,
P
Hi there!
ShowQ is a unique cue-player for Linux-Audio-Users. I use it as a core
application for my theater activities.
Even in the linux-community it's not a very well known application,
although there's no other linux-program (I know) if you need a
one-shot-audio-player with features like f.e. programmable fade-in,
fade-out, no matter if you want it time-based or triggered by space (or
another key).
It can do a lot more - ShowQ has MIDI-support. Although I never tested
this feature, it should be possible to control any application with
MIDI-support. QLC(+) f.e. - or maybe some video-players do support MIDI
- I don't know...
Yeah, of course, ShowQ is not a drop in replacement for QLAB, but
speaking about audio it fits quiet perfectly in my setup.
ShowQ is in the Debian (and Ubuntu?) repositories, it's written in C++
and of course released under the terms of the GPL. Although this app is
quiet useful for technicians like me, the development stopped years ago.
I am not a coder, but I do my best to keep this project alive. On the
Debian bug-tracker I write bug-reports for ShowQ, hoping that on one
hand it's useful for other users to work around problems, on the other
hand that someone fixes them.
Last time I reported a bug Jaromír Mikeš the Debian-maintainer of ShowQ
wrote that he is not able to fix the bugs and he would like to kick
ShowQ. Of course, he also would like to package an alternative if there
would be some he could package.
I don't know any - so my linux-based theater setup is about to be killed
one day when ShowQ wouldn't compile on my debian machine, anymore.
So, what do I want from you?
Test ShowQ! Maybe it's the app you've been missing for a long time!
And if you're a coder with C++-skills, check out my bugreports on
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?repeatmerged=no&src=showq
- maybe you've got the clue...
OR: Got an alternative to ShowQ? You're welcome!
Greets!

FWIW, I updated to JACKD2 from testing last night. I use mplayer on command line to play through JACK. And get the same results.

Can anyone recommend one of these that's reasonably small and robust - not
requiring a second mortgage!
I don't want keys, but programmable push buttons and sliders/knobs. A joystick
would be icing on the cake.
Thanks in advance.

Say you have a poem and I have a tune.
Exchange them and we can both have a poem, a tune, and a song.
Hi lista :)
Using an i3 <https://i3wm.org/docs/userguide.html#exec> shortcut, I can
control my jack transport from everywhere, even when no jack application
has focus :
bindsym $mod+p exec echo play | jack_transport
bindsym $mod+Shift+p exec echo stop | jack_transport
Thanks to FalkTX for the pipe trick BTW, I saw that on linuxmusicians ;
This is very cool if you have some sort of wireless keyboard, but as you
can see it's two different keystrokes, how do I make it so <command>
toggles play/pause? Alternatively, how do I know when jack transport is
rolling, so I can hack my way into making my own toggle script? I did my
homework and read the inline --help of all the available jack commands
on my machine :
⚡ jack_
jack_alias jack_freewheel jack_monitor_client
jack_simple_client
jack_bufsize jack_iodelay jack_multiple_metro
jack_simple_session_client
jack_capture jack_latent_client
jack_net_master jack_test
jack_capture_gui jack_load jack_net_slave jack_thru
jack_connect jack_lsp jack_netsource
jack_transport
jack_control jack_metro jack_rec
jack_unload
jack_cpu jack_midi_dump jack_samplerate
jack_wait
jack_cpu_load jack_midi_latency_test
jack_server_control jack_zombie
jack_disconnect jack_midiseq jack_session_notify
jack_evmon jack_midisine jack_showtime
But found no way to detect the transport status ; Is there a way to know
it?

Hi list,
I'm researching a project that requires a light-weight computer and I'm
considering using something like an Intel NUC NUC5i7RYH with a low cost
stereo audio interface such as a Behringer UCA222.
Will there be any issues running linux audio on NUCs such as this one?
All the best,
Iain

Hello,
I started the Soundcloud page a year ago. I thought I should share the
music I make. This was an opportunity for me to learn about mixing
music, about putting a bit more 'seriousness' in the process, more
technical aspects, paying attention to more details, in short,
polishing up a bit and structuring pieces. At that time I bought a
book on mixing, started to read articles.
A year later while I'm still learning I can see that there was a bit of
a road that was made and I can see that if I go one, it will become
easier to bridge emotions to sounds.
A year later there are 33 pieces that I uploaded. There were 4453
plays, 85 likes, 134 downloads and 27 followers. While these numbers
are certainly extermely average if not sub par, I find it very nice in
their own way.
So I'd like to thank everyone !!
During this week I will try to upload 5 pieces, some kind of a marathon
of composing, arranging and mixing. So here's the first one...
Freetidbit' is using only synthesizers available for free and more
specifically, u-he synthsizers that are available for free. The
Triplecheese synth for instance provides bass, Podolski provides a
melody, TyrellN6 some chords, Zebralette and Beatzille provides sounds
and additional support. All these synths are available for free and
runs natively in Linux. The drums OTOH are not free.

As always comments are welcomed.
Cheers.
Hello,
This one is based on acoustic guitar. The idea was to try to blend in
the transitions so that it feels a bit more like flowing.

Cheers.
Hi,
if I connect an active USB hub and an USB audio card by a 1.5 m USB
cable, there are no xruns. If I connect the devices using a 0.5 m cable
with a ferrite core [1] there's one audible xrun after the other.
Technically a ferrite core affects the quality of a digital
signal, but I wonder if it could be that much, that it could cause
xruns. Maybe just the cable or the jacks are bad. Does anybody know
more about USB cables with ferrite core and possible impact on the USB
signal or other reasons that make a differences for USB cables or USB
jacks?

Btw. the iPad now could connect to the PreSonus and shows all I/Os, but
neither MIDI nor audio I/Os work, IOW I noticed the above when I tested
the PreSonus in combination with the USB hub using Linux.
I'll return the PreSonus and try to find another card for usage with
Linux as well as with iOS.
