Hi.
I released ZynAddSubFX 1.4.0 and contains many new
features:
- added instrument's own effect (effects that
are loaded/saved with the instrument)
- FreeMode Envelopes: all Envelopes can have any
shape (not only ADSR)
- Added instrument kits: It is possible to use
more than one instruments into one part (used for
layered synths or drum kits)
- Amplitude envelopes can be linear or
logarithmic
- added interpolation on the Resonance user
interface
- user interface improvements and cleanups of
it's code
- initiated a mailing list to allow users to
share patches for ZynAddSubFX. Please share your
ZynAddSubFX patches; look at
http://lists.sourceforge.net/mailman/listinfo/zynaddsubfx-user
for more information about the mailing list.
For those you don't know about it, ZynAddSubFX is a
powerfull software synthesizer for Linux and Windows.
It is a opensource software and is licensed under GNU
GPL 2.

Hello!
Does alsa allow several programs to use one device, with soft mixing?
I have switched to alsa drivers, recompiled fluidsynth for alsa, and
tried to run it under KDE (in a Konsole su root). It failed:
===
ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:866:(snd_pcm_hw_open) open /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p failed:
Device or resource busy
fluidsynth: error: The "default" audio device is used by another
application
Failed to create the audio driver
===
Now, I thought I could get rid of arts and let alsa handle softmixing,
but... will it?
Well, I can install JACK. But I'm not only doing music creation. I want
to play MP3s via XMMS, watch videos with Xine, etc. Are there JACK
output plugins, at least, for XMMS and Xine?

Hello!
The problem with starting fluidsynth was indeed the result of a vesion
difference between alsa-driver and alsa-lib. The alsa-driver in th
ekernel proved to be 0.9.0rc6; I got the corresponding alsa-lib from the
ALSA project site (still works only by IP for me), and compiled it from
source; and now it loads.
But, it shows a strange warning:
===
fluidsynth: warning: The sample rate is set to 44100, the synthesizer
may be out of tune
fluidsynth: warning: Requested a period size of 64, got 65 instead
** Using format s16, rw, interleaved
===
I don't really want the synthesizer to be out of tune. So I'd like to
understand what's going on here. (This message does not appear is I run
fluidsynth with -a oss)

Hello!
I tried to find out how to use ladspa with fluidsynth, but I failed. I had
it worked out to the point where I could at least give values for the data
ports, although it is a nasty syntax. But I couldn't assign the audio ports.
I didn't find out which value to assign to the ports. I tried simply using
numbers, or things like "input1"... Does anyone know how to properly insert a
ladspa effect from the fluidsynth-shell?
Thanks in advance.
Kindest regards
Julien
P.S.: Thanks for the one line hack, now the clicks are gone...

Hi folks
I am wondering if there is such thing as a MIDI control interface with
various faders/wheels on it, like various keyboards have for mod/pitch bend
wheels. If so, can anybody make any recommendations?
Thanks
Luke.
Hi (hello Peter?)!
I have a couple of questions about fluidsynth. First I can't figure out how
to use the ladspa-stuff. I mean ladspa_add in specific. I tried it with a
simple plugin (diode from swh), but I couldn't get the input and outpuput
attached. I didn't know what to type for input and output. Unfortunately a
more detailed section on this is missing in the manpage.
Then is there a pause/forward/rewind feature for midi-files? It would be
really great if there was.
the click problem: I also had clicks at the end of the jeux d'orgues 2 font
and at the end of Rhodes73. It sounds like the release time is kept too short.
And one last thing: Everytime I start fluidsynth there is a quiet high
humming. It decreases when I turn of the reverb, but it doesn't completely go
away. Any idea?
I'm sorry for only wining. In general fluidsynth is ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIC!!! I
enjoyed it a great deal! Thanks Peter!
Kindest regards
Julien

Hello all!
Is there a way to decompress the sfark and sfpack soundfont compression
format s under linux? (I would need a solution without GUI)
Thanks for any help!
Kindest regards

Hi,
I need to Sys Ex dump from a digital mixer, tascam
dm-24, to linux and then be able to restore the dump
info.
The mixer stores 99 different mix scenes, eight
automation mixes and various other things.
Is there a utility available?
ron

Hello!
Is the site http://www.alsa-project.org really down for some days now?
Seems like it is, unless my Internet connection has a problem.
And in any caser, is there a mirror out somewhere? I want to set up alsa
but can't, because all the docs are on that site.

Hi
This is my first post to this list. I have been working with both windows and
mac for years as a hobby studio technician with some education in then field.
My day-work is teaching music in secondary school and at the teacher trainers
college here in Stavanger Norway. However I have converted to Mandrake Linux
for my office computer on which I'm at present finishing the first half of
my phd on, but I have been reluctant to try it for music.
After having read about the agnula project and found Thac's RPM's
(http://rpm.nyvalls.se/sound9.1.html) for mandrake plus having heard on the
PCDAW(a)yahoogroups.com mailing list that a few people actually do work
solemnly on linux for studio work I'm tempted to follow. I'll probably lurk
here for some time first, but a few questions:
I have installed rosegarden from thac's RPMs and it seems to be working. Looks
a lot like Cubase which I know well. The problem is that my trident card
(we're now talking about my office box, I have a staudio C-port system on my
music box) apparantly is not supported for interal midi in alsa. I don't know
if that's the reason, but when I start rosegarden I get the message
"sequenzer exited" and then rosegarden starts, but of course with no sound
from midi. This is what is in the sequenszer configuration section: "
"-malsa_seq". Brahms starts fine, but of course no sound.
How would I go about getting softsynths to work? I know Jack is the way. Arts
is installed by KDE. Do I have to disable that? Are there any step by step
instructions or automated setup programs to fix this for me? And is it
possible to use VSTi's under Jack via the vst-server? If it is - how? And
what is the simplest jack patchbay program to use?
I plan to try rosegarden for composing and Ardour for multitracking
eventually.
That was quite a few questions. PLease be gentle as I'm not a very
linux-literate user. Point and click is sort of my thing, but I love to learn
and is quite stubborn..
Hope for some input
Best regards
Ketil Thorgersen
