AlsaModularSynth is a digital implementation of a classical analog modular synthesizer system. Modular synthesis is one of the most flexible and fascinating ways of making electronic music. It is almost impossible to find modern music that does not make use of modular synthesis to enhance or completely provide the sounds in the musical piece. Another forte of modular synthesis is completely organic randomised composition along the lines of Frippertronics. In this howtoot Dr Nagorni has given a very concise rundown of the fundamentals involved in using a modular synth effectively. [linux-audio-user] MIDI app??

I have a Delta 1010 and have heretofore had no use to plook around with MIDI until I picked up a bargain at the local Guitar Center - an Antares Mic Modeler for $99! I can download new models of mics into it via MIDI, but am such a MIDI novice I have no idea which app would be suitable for this sort of thing. Any suggestions? [linux-audio-user] "Beta testers" wanted for jack rack

Hi all, I'm about to release a new version of jack rack, so rather than let it go and then release a load of fixed versions over the next week, I thought I'd try a beta test type thing seeing as the code is now in cvs. So, if anyone would like to test the new version, you can get the cvs info from http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=71639 . [linux-audio-user] MIDI - hapless Newbie Q -

Please forgive me if this is somewhat OT. The tone of this group makes me wonder if I signed up for LAD by mistake. I'm having trouble with what should be a trivial soundcard config. Tech Spec: Debian-3.0/Linux-2.2.20 running on a P133 with 48mB RAM Soundcard: Bluepoint/OPTi82C930 with MAD16 Driver Problem: communicating with external MIDI device (Roland D10) [No ALSA] using OSS basic internal functionality for samples & MIDI is OK Basically every time I try to load the mpu401 driver I get told "Device or Resource busy". I've tried using modprobe, modconf and sndconfig, same thing every time. CDrom audio is also disabled, and I have errors on loading unix socket drivers (which I don't entirely understand). I've tried every available I/O & irq combination that doesn't cause conflicts. It is entirely possible that I'm just using the wrong syntax of course:~) lsmod lists pcmcia_core, unix, lockd, sunrpc, af_packet, mad16, ad1848, uart401, sound, soundlow, soundcore & joystick modules. I'm not sure if there's anything obviously missing or conflicting. Any pointers would be gratefully appreciated. I guess you'll understand when I say that a functioning soundcard is as important as video. Music will hopefully be one of the prime uses of my setup & I'm very interested in stuff like Python OSS, tse3 & stk4 & others which run happily on my box already. Csound looks interesting too, but I may need to improve my hardware before I can properly use it. Right now, I will just be happy if I can simply demo my new song. thanks in advance tim hall forgive me if I spam :~]

Is there an automatic utility, that can extract the BPM of an MP3 file, and add it to the info tags with the file? A bit similar to what the windows PC DJ Blue and Red can do??

[linux-audio-user] ardour/boosthardware.com/quicktoots...

Hallo, I built and installed ardour (again after a long long time) and now I don't know what to do with it... There was an ardour quicktoot, but boosthardware.com cannot be reached from here. Is it dead currently? Did anyone mirror the ardour toots? And I cannot get ardour to read its pixmaps from /usr/share/arour/pixmaps, unless I change into that directory. Isn't this set up in $ARDOURRC if I "export ARDOURRC=/etc/ardour/ardour.rc"? ardour.rc contains the pixmap-path set to /usr/share/arour/pixmaps. (BTW, I'm using and testing the Demudi ardour-snapshot-build-system so far worked like a charm and makes compiling ardour a two-commands-issue) ciao -- Frank Barknecht _ ______footils.org__
