Hello
I'm clearing out all my old guff and i found a midiman portman 2x4 parallel port midi interface. Last time i looked ( a year and a half ago) there were no linux drivers, but if anyone wants it, i can send it to them. mail me off the list if you want it. you'll have to pay the postage.
cheers + good new year

Thought I'd post to see if anyone has any advice. I've just built a
new SMP machine: Asus A7M266-D, 1.0 Ghz Athlons * 2. I got some nice
fans from endpcnoise.com (Molex) that are virtually silent and a Power
Supply which is louder than what I'd hope but very reasonable for
400W's I suppose (dunno).
I installed gentoo, latest alsa, etc... Unfortunately playback is
distorted during video load. It is *not* a CPU load issue - I can
playback just fine while compiling the kernel with make -j3. If I
scroll pages up and down in galeon the sounds slows down :o. Jack
doesn't report Xruns but sometimes delays when I do this. This occurs
both with the onboard C-media chip and my Delta 44.
I struggled for a long time to get the IRQ's not to share. I tried all
the suggestions in the Audio Quality HOWTO. The video card is a PCI
GForce 2. It was in my old machine and didn't cause any problems
(while my old onboard AGP did create some noise). The only thing I can
find is the PCI Latency settings are all set to 32. This seems odd I
suppose, so I tried higher settings for the video to give it more
bandwith and other variations with no success.
I might go out and buy an inexpensive AGP card tomorrow, but I'd hate
to find out the problem is deeper than that. Kernel is 2.4.20 vanilla
tried with and without lowlat. Maybe I should back down to 2.4.19? Any
suggestions? TIA

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone here had any experience using the new demudi/agnula
beta distro?
Reason being that I would like to know the process for downloading the iso and
extracting it before burning. Furthermore, will it be possible to boot from
this cd or is really only an upgrade to a debian system.
Thanks
for any help

I recently joined a choir and I find myself behind since everyone else is intimately familiar with the music. I loaded up the Music Construction Set on my Commodore 64 and it is working out OK. However, I really would like an equivalent program for Linux. I need to be able to put notes on a staff to match the sheet music and then I need to play it back. The program has to be simple to use and easy to learn. So far I have found some very powerful programs but with power comes complexity so that none seem to fit my requirements. Is there anything available to do what I want?

Hi,
I'm trying to use mplayer's ac3 passthrough option, with the ALSA drivers, but I get the following error:
alsa-init: requested format: 48000 Hz, 2 channels, AC3
alsa-init: soundcard set to iec958:AES0=0x2,AES1=0x82,AES2=0x0,AES3=0x2
ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:866:(snd_pcm_hw_open) open /dev/snd/pcmC0D3p failed: No such device
alsa-init: playback open error: No such device
if I do an ll on the /dev/snd/pcmC0D3p the permissions, etc look fine:
- ll /dev/snd/pcmC0D3p
crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 116, 19 Dec 26 17:54 /dev/snd/pcmC0D3p
When I try to cat the file, it gives me the same error, though.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Regards,
Reinier.
I'm pleased to say that the Oxygen 8 now works with my RedHat-based
laptop, after installing the latest stuff from Planet CCRMA. The
only problem is that now my USB Audio interface fails.
ALSA appears to be starting OK:
[root@gimel jzitt]# /etc/rc.d/init.d/alsasound start
Starting sound driver snd-usb-audio [ OK ]
Starting sound driver snd-usb-audio [ OK ]
Starting sequencer driver snd-seq-midi [ OK ]
Restoring sound driver settings [ OK ]
[root@gimel jzitt]#
But jack hangs:
[root@gimel jzitt]# jackstart -R -d alsa -d hw -r 44100

Does this suggest anything (other than what we could tell from my

Hello,
I'm interested in using CDparanoia and possibly GRIP to copy and rip CDs.
Unfortunately, my desktop system is a Windows2000 box. I'm not willing to
install Linux just to use these tools. Is there an ISO image out that comes
with these utils?
Thanks,
Terry
My system disk on this box failed recently, so I had to reinstall on a
different disk. It's been a while since I last set up alsa from scratch,
so I'm doubting myself and suspect that I've forgotten something (or,
perhaps, that alsa has changed recently in some way).
In my previous settup I think the alsasound init script loaded my
drivers on boot. This time I can't seem to get "/etc/init.d/alsasound
start" to work. It runs with no errors (no output at all, actually), but
the sound modules are not loaded.
I'm using debian woody, but I have none of the debian alsa packages
installed. My kernel is 2.4.19 with Robert Love's preempt patch and
Andrew Morton's Low latency patch. I've compiled and installed
alsa-0.9.0rc6-drivers, -lib and -utils. I can do "modprobe snd-ymfpci",
set the mixer and hear sounds with aplay.
after loading the drivers with modprobe
/etc/init.d/alsasound stop
works as expected, unloading the drivers.
This isn't urgent, since I can get sound using modprobe to load the
drivers. But, not having the init script working makes me suspect I've
forgotten something and if I forgot one thing I could have forgotten
others ....
anyway, any suggestions will be welcome.
Thanks,
Eric Rz.
Has anyone looked at/evaluated/considered/used the new VIA EPIA-M9000
motherboard
as the basis for interesting audio projects?
Best wishes,
