Would anyone on the list happen to be familiar with MIDI::ALSA from CPAN? There doesn't seem to be much documentation, and the example programs seem to have everything but the kitchen sink in them. (I can't separate the bare necessities from the sink and the dishwasher...) Entirely done in the phabulous QTractor, like all of my songs since years now. John Option - Bike

The song is published under the terms of the Creative Commons License (CC-BY-SA) and it's completely produced with free software: Ardour, Hydrogen, Jack, Qsynth, CALF, and many other great free audio software that we used under Debian GNU/Linux. [ANN] Vee One Suite 0.7.2 - The eighth beta release

Greetings, The 'the gang of three' old-school software instruments aka. the 'Vee One Suite', comprised by synthv1 [1], as one polyphonic synthesizer, samplv1 [2], a polyphonic sampler and drumkv1 [3], as one drum-kit sampler, are now being released in their eighth official beta iteration. All still available in dual form: - a pure stand-alone JACK [4] client with JACK-session, NSM [5] (Non Session management) and both JACK MIDI and ALSA [6] MIDI input support; - a LV2 [7] instrument plug-in. Change-log: - A brand new LFO BPM control parameter is being introduced, as a subordinate to LFO Rate, with follow/sync to current transport/host option (BPM=Auto). - LFO Sync (free running) mode option has been introduced. - A fourth DCF type has been added: a vocal Formant filter. - A third DCF slope/type has been added: the RBJ's bi-quad. - Prefer Qt5 over Qt4 by default with configure script. - Introducing brand new OUT FX Send parameter per engine. - Introducing brand new DCO, LFO Ring Mod(ulator) parameters (synthv1 [1] only). - Special value (0=Off) added to DCO1,2 and GEN Glide knob spin-boxes (synthv1 [1] and samplv1 [2]). - Fixed an old bug that caused an immediate crash on triggering any sample key/element with its (exclusive) Group parameter set to anything but "Off" or "1" (drumkv1 [3] only). improved stability in GSequencer v0.6.28

Hi all The Advanced Gtk+ Sequencer release v0.6.28 is out and brings some bug-fixes. Jack ringbuffer question

If I bracket the write call with a mutex to protect the data block from corruption as it's actually being written does that interfere with the read operation? Yoshimi - Random Detune

A setting for this has been in the part edit window for quite a long time. There are 20 steps of approximately half a cent. This is applied as a pitch variation to the note-on event, so is per note and also per part (but the whole part not just one engine). It was intended to simulate to effect of fretless instruments, or fretted ones that are weight or bend sensitive, where tiny variations in normal playing would result in such pitch 'inaccuracies'. It also works quite well on flute and whistle sounds. I've used it a few times myself and values of 2-3 seem best. I'm wondering what use (if any) others have made of it, or even if anyone has recognised what it does! Currently this setting isn't saved. It's still classed as an experimental feature. Changing default Jack output ports to be an application's ports

Hello Linux Audio Users, I'm working on a program to drive LED lights based on music playback on a Linux system. My application creates Jack input ports for frequency analysis which I'm currently connecting to the Jack monitor ports, this frequency analysis info is then used for controlling some RGB LED lights. The application I'm currently using for music playback is Clementine, which has a Jack sink option. All this works fine. However, the frequency analysis of the input audio incurs unwanted latency, so there is a slight delay between changes in the music and lighting changes. What I want to do is delay the audio playback to match the full system latency to match the lighting updates as close to real time as possible. My current thinking is to route the incoming Jack audio in my application back to the Jack playback ports, with a fixed delay buffer. The problem is getting applications, such as Clementine, to connect to my application's ports instead of the physical output ports. My understanding of Clementine is that it is using gstreamer, and thus the jackaudiosink plugin. This plugin appears to have some properties for changing the default ports it connects to ("connect" and "port-pattern"). Clementine does not seem to offer a way to specify what ports it connects to though. What complicates it more is that the ports are disconnected/recreated for each song. I suppose I could look into modifying the Clementine code to allow for a value for the "port-pattern" property to be specified, but I thought someone on this list might have some better ideas. Some other thoughts I had: Is it possible to modify the default system wide Jack playback ports to be an application? From what I have seen of code that auto connects to the playback ports, is that it looks for the first input port marked as Physical. Is it possible to change the default system wide setting "port-pattern" for jackaudiosink? Is it possible to modify jackaudiosink settings on a per application basis (say with an environment variable or config file) without having to modify the client program's source.
