Regards,
Yury.
This is still going, but as I think I've mentioned before we really need more
people to join in - there's still plenty of time for this month and the theme
is a German children's song. You're given a recording of the original and a MIDI
file of it. The challenge is to expand on this in your own way.
Mine is here:

Say you have a poem and I have a tune.
Exchange them and we can both have a poem, a tune, and a song.
Hey hey,
a neat little package made with synthpop, rock, dubstep and EDM:

OGG version:

This song uses a lot of Csound, both sounds rendered to disk and loaded into
LinuxSampler as well as live playing. Drums, effects, guitars and basses. Next
in line is Yoshimi with another really good bass, pads and pluck sounds. This
is followed by more LinuxSampler and a bit of hardware. This song required
quite a bit of mixing work, but I still hold that it was totally worth it. :)
The lyrics are below, in case someone wants them. My comprehensibility hasn't
improved. :)
Best wishes,
Jeanette
*** Lyrics ***
Snap decision on the edge of perfection:
Line by line, keep goin'.
Burning eyes in the silver reflexion.
Red and white: it's showin'.
It's where pain and joy
Are like one golden coin.
Such a sharp, racy toy
To employ.
-
Someone here - someone there
Take a mere - little care...
But the world is unfair,
Risk a dream if you dare...
-
Love incorporated:
Heartbreak guaranted.
Our plots come with serrated
Edges Cut to bleed.
Get on the ride!
It'll tan your hide.
Strike a spark with a positive whiplash:
Flame by flame, you're set alight.
Feed your passion with a merciless love stash!
Eyes and skin so bright.
Slap a stamp on your skin,
Ink the message in.
Bind your heart in a tie
Send it in!
-
Is it heat? - Is it love?
Feel the need - like a shove.
Crave the hands, when they're rough.
Take your joy, when it's tough.
-
Love incorporated:
A crash is guaranteed.
Our plots come with serrated
Edges cut to bleed.
Get on the ride!
It'll tan your hide.

If only I could trade the fancy cars
For a chance today,
it's incomparable <3
(Britney Spears)
So, I am having an issue with zita-j2n ...
I have a setup for streaming audio across my home network. There are two
Linux boxes involved, both running Arch Linux; both are connected by
Ethernet to the router (well, actually the broadband modem, which serves as
a router). One is my desktop computer (which I will call the client), the
other is a headless media server (which I will call the server). The client
machine has headphones, and the server has speakers. I need to be able to
send the output from arbitrary sound sources on the client to either the
headphones or the speakers. So I have Jack running on both machines and
need to send audio from client-side Jack to server-side Jack. I also have
an Alsa loopback interface setup on the client, because I need to play
music from programs that don't support Jack - e.g Spotify or web-based
sources like YouTube and Soundcloud (BTW, I am a musician and sometimes use
pro audio software on my desktop system, but this particular setup is not
for that - it's mainly just for listening to music).
I had a version of this setup that worked fine for several years, but it
used Jack1 with the network backend. But a few days ago it stopped working
for some reason ... anyway, long story, but I decided it was time to switch
to Jack2. And I saw that Jack2's network backend isn't usable in the same
way, so I decided to try zita-njbridge.
So, I've more or less figured out how to do this, and have modified the
Python script that manages all the client-side components to use zita-n2j.
I can play music on the desktop machine and stream the output to the server
and hear it on the speakers. So, good. However, zita-j2n crashes frequently
(sometimes every 3-5 minutes) with the following message:
Fatal error condition, terminating.
I would like to find out what is causing these errors. The server-side
system seems solid: Jack and zita-n2j run continuously for several hours
with no apparent problems. So it seems likely that the cause of the problem
is either on the client machine or the network. Apparently zita-n2j doesn't
have a debug mode, so I don't know how to gather the info I need to solve
this. Any suggestions?
Hey hey,
my latest song, a ballad mixing jazz, baroque and psychedelic elements:

OGG version:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/t02b13d6jiyto6o/suddenly.ogg
This is mostly LinuxSampler with a touch of Yoshimi and of course setBfree.
The lyrics you'll find at the end of this mail, in case you'd want to. :)
It took a lot of production, but no special tools. It's a melting pot of
reverb with jconvolver for short ambiences, zita-reverb, g2verb and TAP plate
2x2.
Best wishes,
Jeanette
*** Lyrics ***
Safe and inclement,
Where the rain laden days are incessant.
Time has no significance.
And the seasons pass me by...
No pain, no luck to breach the sky.
-
Suddenly, it's spring.
Her name makes my heart sing.
She can't be here too soon.
Her kiss will make me swoon.
I watched as the days went by
Yet there was nothing to see.
The leaves of the calender turned,
But they held no meaning for me.
Tender smiles vanished into the void,
And gentle hands dropped away.
The day I almost missed my chance,
When I barely caught her final glance.
-
And suddenly it's spring.
Her name makes my heart sing.
She wasn't here too soon.
How her kisses make me swoon.
Safe and inclement
I will no longer be,
Since there is life and love to see.
-
'Cause suddenly it's spring.
Your name makes my heart sing.
You weren't here too soon.
Your presence makes me swoon.

I thought love was just a tingling of the skin <3
(Britney Spears)
Hey hey,
this is my latest song, a very quiet song balancing on the edge between gentle
electro and acoustic downtempo:
https://youtu.be/Q9ErBjaMTZM
OGG Version:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/m3wqo4gg07wuqe2/ends_of_the_earth.ogg
On the Linux side I used Csound with my handpan instrument, one conga like
sound and a wobbly pad and many effects and rhythmic elements. There are also
field recordings of rain and crickets. LinuxSampler for piano, djembe and
table and Yoshimi for one of the choir layers. My hardware wavetable synth
served for teh phasey pad, FM-like bass and the other choir layer and twice
analogue goodnees for the deep main basses.
No new plugins in the production, but more attention to perceived depth.
And finally, here are the lyrics:
Sprite on the ice
In a mist laden dream.
Like rain from the skies,
You touch
And are gone with the stream.
Now, here...
I feel you close
Soft like a tear,
Sharp as a rose.
-
You're so near but far away,
Out of reach, across the seas.
Seeking you I sail astray,
I'll strive for you without cease.
Frozen and seared
By the rays of your moon.
My heart burns to dust
If I can't find you soon.
Here, now...
I make a vow.
I'll cross the earth,
Volcanoes and all... To you.
-
You're so near but far away,
Out of reach, across the seas.
Seeking you I sail astray,
I'll strive for you without cease.
Best wishes,
Jeanette
