It's a love song and it's about standing by our loved ones. There may be some Yes in the gene pool of this one. :) Instruments used: mainly LinuxSampler, with some Yoshimi (thanks Will and the Yoshimi team), and DrumGizmo (thanks to the DG team!). Two analogue hardware synths buried in the mix. [ANN] Qtractor 0.9.30 - An End-of-Year'22 Release batch #3

Hello one third and last time this year, Qtractor 0.9.30 (end-of-year'22) is released! Change-log: - Plugin latency/delay compensation now in effect immediately after changing track option (cf. Track/Properties... /Plugins/Latency compensation). - Shade-off regions not-in-view from the thumb-views. - Improved MIDI queue time drift correction resilience and stability against in-flight tempo changes. - The main real-time process cycle now runs on uniform block-sizes, in strides of 64 frames per period, meaning a higher resolution automation, independent of buffer-size. - The internal main MIDI engine gets its ALSA sequencer queue to a higher resolution (PPQN aka ticks-per-beat) and not subordinated to the current session's anymore. - Although being deprecated to use, JACK Session support is hopefuly fixed, once again. - Better discriminate CLAP Plug-in specific note events and strict MIDI dialect event processing. Trouble using BinauralDecoder from iempluginsuite

Hello, I've been trying to improve the ambisonic decoding for a project in SuperCollider on Arch Linux. Typically I use newCIPIC decoder kernel from the ATK. As an alternative, I first tried the ambix VST plugin in Ardour. When I could get it to work I got excellent results, however it crashed Ardour constantly and the standalone version was equally unstable. The ambix project seems to have stopped development more than 2 years ago. I then tried the VST version BinauralDecoder from iempluginsuite. This works well in Ardour testing with a 2nd order N3D signal. The standalone version however fails to produce an output and seems to be caught in a constant internal feedback loop, ie. it shows "INPUT MUTED" when the audio settings have "Feedback loop: mute audio input" selected and also produces feedback when set to ALSA (rather than Jack) and the "test" button selected. This feedback occurs with no input connections in Pipewire. In SuperCollider (from which would be the ideal platform for me to use the BinauralDecoder), I again attempted to use the VST version using VSTPlugin and its associated classes. When however I scan for plugins with VSTPlugin.search, it prints: '/usr/lib/vst3/BinauralDecoder.vst3' is black-listed. I've not been able to find where that blacklist is located. The same plugin continues to work correctly in Ardour. The version installed of the iempluginsuite is the latest: 1.13.0-1. Does anyone have any suggestions? Merry Christmas,

[music] Theme and fugue for Cariad (soundtrack and for part organ fugue)

The theme for Cariad is a kind of soundtrack, a string quintet. I used the VPO (virtual player orchestra). It is a good collection and the best free orchestra in SFZ format I know, yet in this instance it falls short, being so very exposed. I suppose an even better volume automation might still get it closer. Still, I tried to really work on my string arrangement skills and none course worthier than love. The fugue for Cariad uses Aeolus, which eliminates any questions of sound. Great organ! It is a four part fugue, reminiscent of the baroque style. Only, I cheated and it would take two players, since the piece makes heavy use of all three manuals at the same time, which is certainly not historic. Still, it is the first four part fugue that I have written and again I'm very happy that I was inspired to juggle the voices by her. For the theme I used jconvolver/fconvolver with an impulse response of the Concertgebouw, very little else in the way of production. A touch of EQ and compression on the final master to glue the instruments together.
