As well as ogg and mp3 download links my site has a minimal in-line player.
Seeing as almost all browsers have their own embedded player these days I'm
thinking of removing mine. This will not only get rid of flash, but also the
javascript that supports it (and nothing else).
What do people think?

Say you have a poem and I have a tune.
Exchange them and we can both have a poem, a tune, and a song.
Hello,
We use Echo Layla 3G on HP Z400 workstations with Debian Squeeze (alsa
1.0.23) for two years.
Sometimes we get annoying timeout errors (wait_handshake(): Timeout waiting
for DSP). These errors mostly occur when the computer had been idle more
than one or two days.
Very very rarely we had timeout error while the computer was playing.
1. Computer's sleep mode is disabled from Gnome's power management.
2. Errors mostly occur while it had been idle for a along time. However, we
couldn't predict the exact time. In other words, we can't say that the
errors occur after 24 hour or 36 hour idle time.
3. Besides Echo Layla 3G, we have another soundcard. After the time out
error, although Layla doesn't work, there aren't any problems for the other
soundcard.
4. There aren't any information about the error, just,"wait_handshake():
Timeout waiting for DSP" lines.
5. We tried increasing timeout value for the echo3g driver. But nothing
changed.
What can we do? The error message (wait_handshake(): Timeout waiting for
DSP) is very limited. How can we find the real cause?
thanks

Not really any ideas... except I think the dsp2000 has a unit selection
switch on it that has to be set as the first unit (not sure if that is
unit 0 or unit 1) with dip switches. Maybe check that hasn't be moved by
accident.

I've just purchased an inexpensive USB cassette player in order to
archive/preserve some audio cassette recordings of some interviews I did
years ago, and I've run into a slight issue with the detection of the
device.
The device identifies as a JMTek USB Audio Device (Vendor 0c76, Device
160a). I'm using openSUSE 12.2.
When I plug the device in and connect to it with Audacity, and I only get
a mono channel (rather than a stereo setup). Looking at the output of
"lsusb -v", I see that the input terminal is identified as a microphone
with one channel. (Output of lsusb -v is at the end of this post)
If I start a Windows XP VM in Virtualbox and connect the device to that,
it is recognized (in Windows) as a stereo device, and I can record left
and right channels, so the hardware should be recognized as having stereo
channels via USB. There are no special drivers installed for the Windows
VM (it was just "plug and play").
I'd much rather not have to boot up a Windows VM in order to record audio
from this device. I also would prefer to not use line-in, as I almost
always have ended up with a 60 cycle hum recording that way, and I don't
get that if I record over the USB connection (the USB connection also
powers the device).
snd_usb_audio is automatically loading when I plug the device in.
Are there any tricks that I might apply to getting this device recognized
properly or to diagnose why it's being identified as a mono device?
Thanks,
Jim

hi all,
just wanted to let you know, that myself and Wanda 'officially'
released an album on our own little label Kamizdat in early April. some
of you may have seen us on LAC in Utrecht and in Ireland. well, the
album was made almost entirely on linux (i had a collaborator at the
end who did mixing and mastering, who was not on linux).
anyway, it's a free download (name your price - can be 0) on bandcamp:
http://kamizdat.bandcamp.com
or you can order CDr, and special handmade boxed limited editions with
USB or CDr.
best,
Luka

I installed Ubuntu Studio 13.04 and have no sound. I reinstalled the system
due to some video card errors I could not bypass after an upgrade from
Ubuntu Studio 12.10, but on the old system the sound (and video) was
working. The only thing I had was a sound from the microphone, after I
unmuted it in alsamixer. No other playing or recording was available.
Can anyone help me with this? I wouldn't like to go back to 12.10, install
all programs and updates again.
Thank you.

Hi :)
I start my sessions by scripts, I don't use session managers.
"a2jmidid -e" could cause issues for aj-snapshot regarding to ...
Connecting port 'a2j:Qtractor [136] (capture): Master' with 'yoshimi:midi in'
Connecting port 'a2j:Qtractor [136] (capture): Master' with 'yoshimi-01:midi in'
... ^^^, most of the times it's ok, but it
doesn't work always. No drama in this case, but it could become unfunny,
if there would be more connections, since this number isn't always the
same.
If I don't need all cards, I could run "a2jmidid -eu", IIUC it would
drop this ID, but if I want to use my Envy24 cards too, then ...
port created: RME AIO_579bcc [16] (capture): HDSPMx579bcc MIDI 1
port created: RME AIO_579bcc [16] (playback): HDSPMx579bcc MIDI 1
port created: TerraTec EWX24/96 [20] (capture): TerraTec EWX24/96 MIDI
port created: TerraTec EWX24/96 [20] (playback): TerraTec EWX24/96 MIDI
port created: TerraTec EWX24/96 [24] (capture): TerraTec EWX24/96 MIDI
port created: TerraTec EWX24/96 [24] (playback): TerraTec EWX24/96 MIDI
I can't use the -u switch, because it would cause ...
ERROR: a2j_port_create: jack_port_register() failed for 'TerraTec
EWX24/96 (capture): TerraTec EWX24/96 MIDI'
ERROR: a2j_port_create: jack_port_register() failed for 'TerraTec
EWX24/96 (playback): TerraTec EWX24/96 MIDI'
Is there a solution for his issue?
It would be possible to ask for the ID and then let the script edit the
file that will be used by aj-snapshot, before it runs aj-snapshot, but
IMO this is another bad extra effort.
