All we composers really have to work with is time and sound - and
sometimes I'm not even sure about sound.

Hi all,
After years the developers of SuperCollider decided to start making official
releases, which has led to release 3.1!
You can download it here:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=54622
A lot of changes and improvements have been made over the last few
weeks leading up to this release. If you haven't upgraded in a while,
now would be a good time to do so!
If you are a package manager for a distribution, it is suggested to use the
new released version to update the package (this will make it easier on the
user emaillist to help with questions).
sincerely,
on behalf of the SuperCollider developers,
Marije Baalman
Amuc (the Amsterdam Music Composer) version 1.5 has been available for some
monthes already, but here is the official announcement.
http://members.chello.nl/w.boeke/amuc/index.html
Amuc is a light-weight tool for composing and playing music. 'Light-weight' in
the sense of not needing graphical or other toolkits. It is very fast and
offers useful features to help the inexperienced composer. Now it also
incorporates a pitch extractor, translating a wave file to notes. Listen to a
fast solo by John Coltrane on saxophone, followed by the extracted tune with
a simple accompaniment, and then with a synthetic bass gitar and sampled drums:

a2jmidid is daemon for exposing legacy ALSA sequencer applications in
JACK MIDI system. It is based on jack-alsamidi-0.5 (jackd alsa seq midi
backend) by Dmitry Baikov. The main purpose is to ease usage of legacy,
not JACK-ified apps, in JACK MIDI enabled systems.
New in this release is addition of configure script (autotools) that
enables compatibility with different JACK MIDI API variants.
Planned features/improvements:
* One JACK client per ALSA sequencer client
* More control on what ports to bridge (currently bridging is fixed to
non-hardware ports).
* Real daemonization with log file, init.d script, etc.
If someone wants to contribute please, contact me, or send patches, or
request inclusion (Gna! a2jmidid project). As usual, packagers are more
than welcome too.
