The LASH Audio Session Handler 0.5.1 is out.
LASH is a session management system for GNU/Linux audio
applications. It allows you to save and restore a complex
setup of many applications connected together (via Jack and
Alsa sequencer) with a single click of a button.
Changes since 0.5.0:
- Automatic server launching (similar to Jack, export
LASH_START_SERVER to enable)
- Numerous bugfixes (notably saving over existing project
directories and duplicate clients in the Lash Panel)
- Usability fixes to Lash Panel (notably the save dialog
now makes sense)
Upgrading is highly recommended.
Rumour has it the next releases of MusE and Seq24 will have
LASH support, and preliminary work on Ardour has begun.
Feel free to contact me about adding support to your app
(it's usually very simple).

--------
Snd v7.15 from 17.8.2005
About
-----
Snd-ls is a distribution of the sound editor Snd. Its target is
people that don't know scheme very well, and don't want
to spend too much time configuring Snd. It can also serve
as a quick introduction to Snd and how it can be set up.
Changes 0.9.5.3 -> 0.9.5.4
--------------------------
-Changed default resampling quality to SRC_SINC_BEST_QUALITY
-Added workaround for shift-handling across various keyboard settings.
(shortcuts for zoom in and undo works with american keyboards now.)
-Added check for Guile 1.8. Snd-ls crashes with guile 1.8.
(all versions I have tried of 1.7 seems to work though...)
-Use JackPortIsPhysical instead of "alsa_pcm" when finding jack ports.

Germany, is possible as of now by visiting our web page at
http://lac.zkm.de
and clicking on the link "Registration" on the left.
Like last year (and the years before), registration is free and is only
necessary because we need to prepare nametags, make estimations about
room sizes/required chairs and want to learn a bit about our audience.
That's all, honestly! :-). Information given there will NOT be used for
any kind of selling, spamming or otherwise abusing.
Also, the preliminary conference program has been published a few weeks
ago, available through the same link give above.
Thanks for registering in case you plan to come!

Freecycle 0.6alpha is out!!
Freecycle (http://freecycle.redsteamrecords.com) is a beat slicer running on
GNU/Linux platform using the QT toolkit, providing amplitude domain and
frequency domain beat matching / zero crossing algorithms.
It exports sliced audio chunks and generates a MIDI file which can be used to
play the sliced loop, or you can jam with it as soon as you’ve made slices
using a midi keyboard or sequencer.
Freecycle also exports AKAI S5000/S6000/Z4/Z8 .AKP files to be used with your
favorite sampler, SoundFont files, and supports slice drag and drop to/from
or inside Freecycle.
It can process the audio inline using LADSPA effects, as well as apply
envelopes to separate slices.
This new release replaces the PortAudio and PortMidi support with Alsa and
alsaseq. PortAudio and PortMidi are still supported on systems without alsa.
As a minor feature, Freecycle now provides the "Bark scale" for spectrogram
plotting, which enhances the visibility of the audio wave in the frequency
domain. Some bugfixes and minor optimisation as always..

Greetings all,
Considering that the linuxaudio.org lists are currently not reaching a
majority of the Linux audio community, I wanted to use this opportunity to
inform you of the latest developments regarding the Linuxaudio.org. Also, for
the same reason I've resorted to some cross-posting. My sincere apologies if
this has caused any inconvenience.
What is Linuxaudio.org?
Linuxaudio.org is a non-profit consortium whose role is to support Linux as a
viable digital audio workstation. Linuxaudio.org therefore aims to expose,
proliferate, and disseminate artistic, as well as software and hardware
development endeavors associated with the aforementioned platform. The
two-year-old consortium boasts a growing membership consisting of 30+ member
organizations, companies, software projects, and institutions. In its
relatively brief existence, Linuxaudio.org has spearheaded a creation of the
first online CD compilation of art generated using exclusively open source
software in conjunction with Linux, and has sponsored Linux audio booths at
several international conferences and expos.
For more info please visit http://www.linuxaudio.org
It is also my pleasure to use this opportunity to announce our latest members:
*Ubuntu Linux represented by Mark Shuttleworth
*Ubuntu Studio project (ubuntustudio.com) represented by Dana Olson
*Pure-Data represented by Miller Puckette
*Frinika software project (www.frinika.com) represented by Johan Salomonsen
*(CCM)2 studios at the College-Conservatory of Music, University of
Cincinnati represented by Dr. Mara Helmuth
*Virginia Tech Music Department, represented by Prof. John Husser
I would like to welcome our new members. For latest updates, users, members,
as well as prospective members are encouraged to subscribe to the following
list:
http://lists.linuxaudio.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/consortium/
We are now in an opportune moment as the Linuxaudio.org appears to be finally
ready for the plan which has been proposed almost a year ago, namely to
incorporate the consortium in order to begin fund-raising for the purpose of
strengthening the consortium's mission and outreach. In order to bring this
plan to fruition, I would first of all greatly appreciate a response from
all who were/are currently subscribed to, or wish to be involved in the
consortium.
A number of other ideas/projects are currently in
the works, including a potential move of the consortium's server to Virginia
Tech where we could enjoy better bandwidth and more disk space, both of
which would put us in a much better position regarding expansion and
offering enhanced content. If anyone is interested in getting involved with
the
Web maintenance, please contact me at ico_at_linuxaudio.org.
Linuxaudio.org is currently in the process of finalizing a new logo. All who
are involved (or wish to be involved) in Linuxaudio.org are welcome to
contribute to this project.
Finally, please allow me to point out that Linuxaudio.org always welcomes new
member projects, institutions, organizations, and individuals who actively
contribute to the development of the Linux as a viable digital audio
workstation, including artists and software projects. The membership is
currently free, and even once we become incorporated and instantiate
membership dues for the purpose of fund-raising, members will have an option
to enroll as and/or retain their free membership. If interested, please do not
hesitate to contact me. For additional info, please visit
http://www.linuxaudio.org.
Sincerely,
Ivica Ico Bukvic, Director
Linuxaudio.org
I'm pleased to announce the release of Rivendell v0.9.67. Rivendell is a
full-featured Radio Automation System that is available under the GNU General
Public License. From the NEWS file:
*** snip snip ***
Changes:
Audio Metadata Import Enhancements. Rivendell will now recognize
and import a wide variety of audio metadata formats, including:
AES46-2002 (aka "CartChunk")
ID3v1 and ID3v2 Tags
TM Century "GoldWave" Extensions
TM Century "GoldDrive" Format
RDImport Enhancements. RDImport has been completely rewritten from
scratch, with an eye to improved stability and features (including
'SingleCart' and 'DropBox' modes). Do 'rdimport --help' at a
command prompt to get a list of the possibilities.
RDCatch Enhancements. It's now possible to configure AutoTrim and
Normalization of Download Events, as well as Normalization of
Record Events.
New Report Type. An 'ASCAP/BMI Electronic Music Report' report
format has been added. This uses the so-called "Paris" format to
generate EDI records that can be submitted directly to ASCAP/BMI
for satisfaction of a station's music reporting requirements. New
data fields (including Composer, Publisher and Usage Type) have
also been added to the library to accommodate this functionality.
Many BugFixes. See the ChangeLog for details.
*** snip snip ***
Library Versions:
This version requires that, at a minimum, libradio-0.97.0 and
librhpi-0.94.6 be installed. If installing from RPM, the version of
the currently installed libraries can be determined by doing:
rpm -q libradio
rpm -q librhpi
Database Update:
As always, be sure to run RDAdmin immediately after
upgrading to allow any necessary changes to the database schema to
be applied.

I've upgraded my personal connections to the net from a very tired
dialup connection to something a bit snappier. Nope, still no cable or
dsl out here in Wynndel, BC. But, I collected a bunch of soda cans and
pennies off the street and purchased a Ka-Satellite connection. Not as
fast as some of you are used to, but way faster than dialup :)
Anyway, MMA has moved to:

and my email is bvdp(a)xplornet.com
Thanks.

Hi all,
as every year the famous german LinuxTag is taking place. This year in
Wiesbaden from 3. to 6. May. Yes, this is just one week after LAC2006,
which has several advantages and disadvantages:
+ It is a good chance to come to Germany for LAC, have one or two
days of holiday and then join the LA-Group at LinuxTag!
+ Maybe even repeat your LAC-Talk at LinuxTag? (see www.linuxtag.org
for details on the Call-for-Papers but be aware that it ends January
15...)
+ Wiesbaden is more in the center of germany so perhaps some LA-folks
from the north of germany can join us?
- The new place for LinuxTag together with LAC being a week before
enforce two of the main-booth-members of the last years (Christoph
Eckert and Frank Neumann) to be only a visitor at LinuxTag or even
less... That leaves a hole in the organisational part. :-(
So here is my call:
I am willing to do some work organizing a booth and a group of staff
but I need YOUR help! If you are a german LA[DU]-member and have some
spare time, join in!
A booth at LinuxTag is a good opportunity to present Linux Audio to
the people, not only to developers but more to users. The crowd is
mostly industry (producers, technicians, musicians) at the weekdays
and home-recording-users at the weekend. Don't be afraid, there won't
be much questions about setting up drivers for consumer-cards (and If
there are, we usually send them to their distributions booth :-) ).
But there will be a lot people thinking about using your app in
studio! So you definitly don't want to miss this chance!
If I get positive answers from at least two other people by weekend, I
will apply for a booth and things start rolling, so don't hesitate,
check your calendar, plan for another week of holiday and join me
(us?).
So long and thanks for all the fish,
Arnold
