NIME 2018 call for submissions

NIME 2018 Call for submissions Please pardon the cross-posting, NIME (New Interfaces for Musical Expression) is the premier conference in human-machine interfaces and interactions for musical performance. NIME is a gathering of researchers, designers, musicians, who come together to share knowledge, perform music, and build community through research presentations, concerts, installations, and workshops. On behalf of the 2018 NIME Committee I am pleased to announce that the NIME 2018 "Mirrored Resonances" Conference call for submissions is now officially open! Co-organized between Virginia Tech and the University of Virginia, the conference will take place June 3-6, 2018 in Blacksburg, Virginia. We welcome submissions of papers, posters, panels, musical performances, installations, demos, and workshops, particularly those that may respond to the overarching conference theme of “Mirrored Resonances” and its thematic areas in any of the many ways they might be interpreted. Likewise, we encourage potential participants to consider exploring the unique Virginia Tech facilities, including the Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology’s Cube with a massive high density loudspeaker array. The deadline for the *double-blind peer reviewed submissions*, including papers, panels, demo papers, music, and installations is January 20th, 2018. Submissions created by January 20th will continue to be editable until January 27th when the submission process will close. Demos without paper and workshops will be *curated *and have an extended submission deadline until March 1st, 2018. In addition to the NIME and academic communities, we also invite industry, as well as non-academic creatives to consider participating in the aforesaid categories. Vee One Suite 0.8.5 - An Autumn'17 release

Howdy! The 'Vee One Suite' of so called 'old-school' software instruments, synthv1 [1] as a polyphonic subtractive synthesizer, samplv1 [2] a polyphonic sampler synthesizer, drumkv1 [3] as yet another drum-kit sampler and padthv1 [4] as a polyphonic additive synthesizer, are here released for the seasonal greetings. All still available in dual form: - a pure stand-alone JACK client with JACK-session [5], NSM (Non Session management [6]) and both JACK MIDI and ALSA MIDI [7] input support; - a LV2 instrument plug-in [8]. The common change-log for this Fall goes like this: - Sample files are now saved as symlinks when saving to JACK and/or NSM session directories/folders (applies to samplv1 [2] and drumkv1 [3] only). - Opening multiple preset files is now possible, populating the preset drop-down listing, while only the first one is loaded effectively into the scene as usual. - Mono(phonic) "Legato" mode option introduced. - Desktop entry specification file is now finally independent from all build/configure template chains, whatever. - Updated target path for freedesktop.org's AppStream metainfo file (formerly AppData). The Sonoj/Open Source Musician Podcast Lightning Tunestorm Challenge!

Greetings Musicians! We challenge each and all of you to join in our musical “tunestorm” challenge on November 5th in collaboration with the Sonoj Convention. At the convention participants will be given an audio sample that must be incorporated into an original musical piece in 1 hour! We are offering this same challenge worldwide for participating remotely. The sample will also be posted online and a submission form made available during the same hour the challenge is issued at the convention. Highlights from the submissions will be played in the following episode of the Open Source Musician ( http://opensourcemusician.com). "Sonoj", a community organized event about Open Source Music Production struggles to get funded. Please help

(Disclaimer: I am an organizer of this event) In less than a month the "Sonoj Convention" shall happen. [quote]Admission is free. You will be able to enjoy demonstrations, talks and workshops about music production through open source software. Hands-on tutorials and workflow presentations can be expected. Everything will be recorded and released as online videos afterwards. [/quote] Please consider helping us by donating and spreading the word. You will get some appreciation through the "Reward" system on the website. For that we are asking for some modest donations here: https://www.startnext.com/en/sonoj Currently it looks like that this will not succeed, as you can see from the link above. This is the usual "all or nothing" platform that only gives you money if the goal is reached, otherwise donors get their money back. However, despite submitting the event announcements and several updates to nearly one hundred on-topic websites, magazines (including posting it ourselves on KVR, Reddit etc.) and blogs there is nearly zero response. That excludes the Linux Audio Scene itself, which was very supportive to this day (at least the news, not the donations). I was hoping that Sonoj could be an event that brings in people from the "outside", that are not already well connected with Linux Audio. It seems I was wrong. So here I am in one of the last places I wanted to ask for donations, because this is the crowd that usually already gives a lot, be it their own time, development of software or actual donations to well deserving projects. [LAU] [LAD] Guitarix 0.36.0 released

Guitarix release 0.36.0 Guitarix is a tube amplifier simulation for jack (Linux), with an additional mono and a stereo effect rack. Guitarix includes a large list of LV2 and LADSPA plugins, and support LADSPA / LV2 plugs as well in it's racks. The guitarix engine is designed for LIVE usage, and feature ultra fast, glitch and click free preset switching and is full Midi and remote controllable (the Web UI is not included in the distributed tar ball). This release add a couple of features to the lately introduced DrumSequencer plugin. It add 2 more toms, it add beat repeat/skip switches, it add the possibility to add a sequence (Preset) to the current one, switch to previous/next preset, . . or load a slected preset (sequence) all controllable with Midi CC. Also it introduce new Midi Note ON to CC support, means, you could control toggle switches with Midi Note On messages now (continues control). Also it introduce a new option to load Stereo plugs as Mono plugs, eg. before the amp. It can be used to construct hybrid sounds, for instance a sound between a trumpet and a flute; or smooth transitions, for instance a sound that starts as a trumpet and then gradually changes to a flute. SpectMorph ships with many ready-to-use instruments which can be combined using morphing. SpectMorph is implemented in C++ and licensed under the GNU LGPL version 3 Integrating SpectMorph into your Work ------------------------------------- In order to make music that contains SpectMorph, you currently need to use Linux. There are four ways of integrating SpectMorph sounds into music you create: - LV2 Plugin, for any sequencer that supports it. - VST Plugin, especially for proprietary solutions that don't support LV2. - JACK Client. - BEAST Module, integrating into BEASTs modular environment. Note that at this point, we may still change the way sound synthesis works, so newer versions of SpectMorph may sound (slightly) different than the current version.
