[LAA] Qtractor 0.9.0 - An Early Spring'18 Release!

Hello? Qtractor 0.9.0 (early spring'18 beta) is now released! The change-log for this spring-time release goes as follows: - New View/Options.../Plugins/Experimental/Show plugins on track list/left pane option is in effect on tracks that are tall enough in height for their plugins list to fit on the Bus column. - Fixed a day-zero bug over the MIDI Insert (Send/Return) pseudo-plugin, which was duplicating MIDI events onto the next LV2 plugin in chain, causing strange hanging notes, mutes, retriggerings and what not. - MIDI track and clip note min/max range display now fixed. - MIDI Program Change events (PC) now have their proper program number as parameter, instead of value, on the internal MIDI event representatio n. - Merging MIDI clips while on SMF Format 0 has been fixed: was merging always onto the same MIDI channel (2), most often the wrong one, resulting in an empty or blank clip. - When importing from standard MIDI files (SMF), set track names from Mtrk TRACKNAME meta-events instead of filename. - Avoid asking to save as to existing or just newly created clip file-names, whenever possible. - Disable singleton/unique application instance setup logic when the display server platform is not X11. - Whether to use native file browser/requester dialogs is now an effective option when launching under NSM session management (was once disabled initially). - Content files are now saved as symlinks when saving to JACK and/or NSM session directories/folders. - Trying to get CC14 MSB+LSB (course+fine) running status on, no matter whether each pairing event are under 200ms apart. - Possible VST plug-in GUI reparenting hack/fix on Qt5/Xcb. [LAA] [ANN] hexter DSSI softsynth 1.1.0 release

I'm pleased to announce the 1.1.0 release of hexter, a DSSI softsynth plugin that models the sound generation of a Yamaha DX7 synthesizer. This release provides support for DSSI hosts which don't support run_multiple_synths(), for example, Carla and Renoise. Each instance of the plugin is run separately, and support for the global polyphony limit has been removed. Several bugs and numerous compiler warnings have been fixed. [LAA] Vee One Suite 0.9.0 - The End of Winter'18 release

Ahoy there! The 'Vee One Suite' of so called 'old-school' software instruments, synthv1 [1] as a polyphonic subtractive synthesizer, samplv1 [2] a polyphonic sampler synthesizer, drumkv1 [3] as yet another drum-kit sampler and padthv1 [4] as a polyphonic additive synthesizer, are once again released just before the season ends. As before, all available in dual standard forms:<ul> - a pure stand-alone JACK client with JACK-session [5], NSM (Non Session management [6]) and both JACK MIDI and ALSA MIDI [7] input support; - a LV2 instrument plug-in [8]. The changes for this end-of-season goes as follows: - Introducing Scala micro-tuning classes, borrowed, stirred and refactored from original Nick Dowell's amsynth code, all under the GPL umbrella, of course. - An internal note-key/frequency indirection table is now in place, as a baseline for any micro-tuning implementations. - Whether to use native file browser/requester dialogs is now an effective option when launching under NSM session management (was once disabled initially). - Initializing and/or requesting a New blank preset doesn't open a sample file picker dialog anymore as it was more than nagging while under on NSM sessions. (applies to samplv1 [2] only). - Trying to get CC14 MSB+LSB (course+fine) running status on, no matter whether each pairing event are under 200ms apart. - A little hardening on the configure (autoconf) macro side. [LAA] Rivendell v2.19.0

On behalf of the entire Rivendell development team, I'm pleased to announce the availability of Rivendell v2.19.0. Rivendell is a full-featured radio automation system targeted for use in professional broadcast environments. It is available under the GNU General Public License. From the NEWS file: *** snip snip *** Changes: Log Locking. Implemented a system-wide protocol to prevent changes made to a log on one host from being inadvertently overwritten from another host. Log Importation Changes. Changed music and traffic importation so that parent link events are still visible in linked logs. Added the ability to specify automatic log deletion on the basis of either the Creation Date or Air Date of the log. Fixed a bug in rdlibrary(1) that caused evergreen cart/cuts to fail to be highlighted in the correct color. Database Update: This version of Rivendell uses database schema version 275, and will automatically upgrade any earlier versions. To see the current schema version prior to upgrade, see RDAdmin->SystemInfo. [LAA] linuxaudio.org is back online!

Dear all, We just enabled all mail services for linuxaudio.org again. All mailing lists are working again and mail can be sent and received for the linuxaudio.org domain. A short recap of what happened is that linuxaudio.org got compromised on January 29th, probably with a compromised private SSH key or password from an account with shell access. The attacker checked the kernel, saw that it was vulnerable to Dirty COW¹, pulled in an exploit and got root. This was quickly discovered by the IT department of Virginia Tech University that disconnected the server from the internet and started a forensic investigation procedure. As part of their IT security policy the server had to be reinstalled and everything had to be set up from scratch again. In the meanwhile I built an alternative setup and after some discussion we agreed on moving linuxaudio.org away from the Virginia Tech server. So linuxaudio.org got a new home after 15 years at Virginia Tech². We're very, very thankful that we could host linuxaudio.org on their servers and we can't stress enough how grateful we are for all the work that has been done on the side of Virginia Tech after the hack. linuxaudio.org now lives at Fuga³, a fully open source OpenStack⁴ cloud based in The Netherlands. Fuga is part of Cyso⁵, the company I work for. The linuxaudio.org ecosystem now consists of three separate servers, a web server, a mail server and a storage server. We rebuilt everything with portability and scalability in mind with a strong focus on security. You can never prevent passwords or SSH keys getting into the hands of hackers but we'll try to keep the servers as up to date as we can to narrow down the attack surface as much as possible. A big thank you to all those who helped out! It was quite a ride but it seems as if most part of the linuxaudio.org ecosystem is accessible again. If you find any web pages, downloads or other bits and parts that don't work properly then please let us know so we can take a look at it.
