Any recommendation's for a 24 bit compatible command-line drivable
24bit 44.1 -> 48 k rate conversion & 48k -> 44.1K plus AIFF to WAV and
WAV to AIFF conversion?
I'm using Sox but it eems to be getting a little bit lng in the tooth
and it seems not to be 24 bit compatible.

Re-,
Thanks for the fast answers!
I've already collected Perl HTML modules and will see what I can do with that. I
like the idea of diving in and having a try to find the language that will best
suit to one's feelings, but I was wondering which one would handle audio files
better. There seem to be plenty of Perl modules on the CPAN archive, including
the Audio family (and Number::SPICE I may discover later...): what about
Python? Maybe "aifc" (http://www.python.org/doc/1.5.2p2/lib/module-aifc.html)?
I suppose Perl is the closest to Matlab as also close to C/C++?
I'll document myself on Ruby too! On RubyCentral (http://www.rubycentral.com) I
guess?
Before anyone asks, let's say I've cheated a bit: I wrap an Akp to Sfz converter
inside my script:

Cheers,
Christian
Is there a list of PCMCIA sound cards supported by Linux available, to
your knowledge? or a particular card which you can, from experience,
say is supported? If yes, do/will you recommend any/it? I'm having
trouble tracking down some good info -- though I have yet to search
the LAU archives -- and would appreciate some comments. I'm in the
market, but have a very small window for purchasing: 48 hours, tops.

I tried with CONFIG_PREEMPT_DESKTOP=y when I emailed you before.
I just tried CONFIG_PREEMPT_VOLUNTARY=y with no success either.

Thanks for posting that message on LKML!

Yeah, that's one thing that's always puzzled me. They've managed to get their act together with a common currency. You'ld think something like a common plug wouldn't be too much of a stretch.
blimey -- is it my imagination or is there no way to copy and paste a
selected note or set of notes in noteedit? surely im missing something
here.

Hi All,
I don't want this to sound like a complaint, just a request --- after
all, this is a great list!
If you start a new msg, could you please not reply to an existing msg?
Doing so starts a thread within the old subject. I don't think that is
what we want. We want contributors to view subjects and be able to reply
or ignore a msg/thread of a particular subject. Thus, a msg with new
subject matter may be lost to someone who can help. It can also be a bit
annoying when someone is interested in the original post but views posts
of different subjects in that thread.
If you do accidentally reply to an existing msg with a new msg subject,
could you copy your post and start a new msg? -- just so we don't go
down that road (i've seen some pretty long threads here with many subjects)
thanks!

Hi all,
sorry for crossposting, just wanted to let everybody know:
The official statement is that there will be no support for ALSA (Linux)
FireWire drivers from RME. In other words there will be no such drivers,
as it is impossible to write them without tons of hardware and software
documentation from RME. And we won't share these information with
anyone.
Regards
Matthias Carstens
RME
No further explanations.
The moral of this story is:
Never buy a product that isn't already supported in ALSA, such as i did.
:( There's no guarantee even if pretty much every other card from the
same manufacturer *is* already supported.
Me and Benno talked to Matthias personally during Musikmesse, he was
friendly and seemed to be open with regards to future cooperation with
oss developers.
Seems like things have changed dramatically since then.

Hi folks,
today my christmas-present, a tascam us-122 arrived. Sure enough first thing
to do was to test it. After figuring which packages to install and after
realizing that it seems as if I don't need the firmware from windows I now
get midi and sound with it.
And here starts my problem: soundplayback is only the very first seconds, then
it stops and after a while I get an I/O-Error. My action was "aplay -D hw:1
-f cd <a_file>". I also tested with alsaplayer and jack, both don't do any
sound. :-(
Maybe someone can help me, I would like to use this device on christmas-eve.
BTW, I didn't test under windows, thats one thing left to do...
Thanks in advance,
Arnold
PS: Installed packages are:
alsa-driver-1.0.7
alsa-firmware-1.0.7
fxload-20020411
hotplug-20040923
I am using gentoo and kernel 2.6.8-gentoo-r8...

There is another theory which states that this has already happened.
