I was overjoyed after my last attempt at running the latest intel driver and
setting up KMS for it, only to later find out that this had a high price.
The xruns are horribly too many, and events that trigger them are window
minimise/restore/maximise, disabling/enabling compositing, even changing
tabs in a window!
Now I'm starting KMS before even my initscripts run, very early in
userspace, and I've tried running it later as well - to no avail. I'm back
to a regular environment without this KMS thing, partly content (that I'm
safe again) and partly disappointed (I thought I almost had the perfect
system).
Now I would really like to know from someone in-the-know why and how KMS are
underruns are related. I'm sure this is not intel-specific.
Is there a MIDI over ethernet implementation for Linux? I searched and
couldn't find one except some suggestions to use stuff under WINE.

quite a strange question, imnsho :)
i'd rather ask about ext4 vs xfs
i would not recommend ext3 — too slow
xfs is fast & reliable, but at least it does not have any tools to
deal with bad blocks if they appear.
so the answer is ext4.

Hi
I'm currently working on a theory book in latex with the music set in
abc. I use the following commands for displaying accidentals in latex.
However the symbol I use for double-sharp (\times) is not exactly a
double-sharp. Anyone knows if there's a way to get a real double-sharp
symbol available in latex?
\newcommand{\es}{$^\flat$}
\newcommand{\eses}{$^{\flat\flat}$}
\newcommand{\opl}{$^{\natural{}}$}
\newcommand{\is}{$^\sharp$}
\newcommand{\isis}{$^\times$}

Mr Jedi Storm,
I'm cc'ing the audio-user list again since others may be able to help.
I use midi files instead of an actual hardware device like you do. I run a (home-made) utility which strips out the note-off events from the percussion track and saves the updated midi file. I then play back the resulting file with fluidsynth and the problem goes away.
In your case you will need to configure a program to filter the events out before they get to fluidsynth. I've never done this kind of filtering so I don't know which software to recommend, but assuming such a real-time midi filter exists, it should be possible to create a chain by connecting the alsa ports of the various applications together correctly and make this all work.

KEn ,
Excuseme but what do you mean with ; strip out the note-off events in the percussion tracks altogether ?
I've the posibility to change default Instrument bank position as well with an editor ...
Thank you very very much !

It doesn't matter if they are note-off or note-on with a velocity=0, fluidsynth treats both as note-off events. You are experiencing a bug which occurs when a note-on is followed shortly by a note-off or note-on-velocity-zero event. If the temporal spacing between the two events is short enough that fluidsynth processes both events during the same cycle, then audio for the note-on is never generated. This occurs most frequently with percussion tracks since the note-on and note-offs are spaced very closely together. The only solution I've found is to strip out the note-off events in the percussion tracks altogether. Its a pain, but works pretty well.

This will be the cause of the symptom.
Change the D4 configuration to generate NOTE OFF events?
I've checked, and fluidsynth has no documented option for inventing the
NOTE OFF events, so you have to generate them.
I've briefly googled, and there are mentions of changing the D4 to
generate NOTE OFF events. I'm not familiar with the D4 myself though.

This is so way-OT, but I trust the knowledge on this list in general,
so I'm hoping someone can help me...
I've extracted a little mono amp out of a pair of computer speakers
that I would like to use as a general practice/noise amp. It
currently has a balanced 1/8" input. The wires going to the input
are: black, white, and a braid of wires (I'm assuming shield?). I'd
like to cut this 1/8" plug off and add a 1/4" female jack so I can
plug stuff into it. But where do I solder the wires to? (i.e., black
to tip, white to sleeve, that kind of thing) I have access to stereo
and mono 1/4" jacks.
Thanks, and sorry again for the OT.
PS - I've read that the proper way to do this is to use an audio
transformer, but that's WAY overkill for this project, I just want
sound to come out, nothing audiophile or anything like that.

Hello,
Could anyone tell me whether there are plans to extend the OSS support
in Jack2 from Solaris to Linux? I've just switched to OSS4 because ALSA
doesn't support my laptop's on-board sound properly. However I now no
longer have Jack.
If it won't be possible in the near future to use OSS with Jack, might
it be possible to continue using OSS on the internal audio device and
ALSA on my USB audio interface? I'm guessing that it isn't, but you
don't know till you ask.
Many thanks in advance,
Robert
I'm running fluidsynth/qsynth in a 64studio distribution.
I'm generating MIDI events from a Drum Machine Alesis D4 directly to
fluidsynth through a MIDI In port and fluidsynth fails to sintetize more
than 85% of the hits on the PAD.
Facts : 1- Fluidsynth is receiving MIDI events from every single hit on the
PADs. (checked with amidi & fluidsynth -v)
2- Fluidsynth is able to reproduce every single Midi event if it's generated
by a Midi keyboard or Virtual Keyboard.
3.- If I connect the Alesis D4 module to a Hydrogen dumr machine , it
reproduce and sintetize every single stroke without problem.
4.- After do some debugging I have been able to see the following :
MIDI Keyboard or Virtual Keyboard generate NOTE ON and NOTE OFF events , The
alesis D4 only generates NOTE ON midi events.
Thank you for the support , I'm facing a Live gig in less than 2 weeks and I
would love to use fluidsynth and my new created midi instruments !
