Sorry Louigi for spamming your inbox.. meant to send this to the list!
Latency isn't a problem for me. I'm not interested in real time recording
with this app. It's great for step recording etc. And the killer feature is
being able to run it on my phone!

Hi all,
Just a heads-up on something new I found: Not free software, but a
cool multi-platform tracker nonetheless:
http://www.warmplace.ru/soft/sunvox/
A bit like Buzz/Neil in some ways, but nice because I can also run it
on my android phone and share tracks composed on the phone with my
computer, as well as with people using Windows and iphone/ipad etc..

As an aside, one possible way of dealing with this issue is to create your
own voices for applications like orca.
If you want a quick and easy way to get started with that process you can
run "AT Distro" in a virtual machine.
http://atdistro.com
Otherwise you can go direct into orca too. As orca is scriptable it is
possible to create a singing voice. With some careful tweaking of the
voice parameters you might be surprised at how realistic it can be made to
sound.

Hey everyone, can someone remind me where i can get the list of known
usb audio interfaces that work with linux and ubuntu? And maybe someone
can tell me if the Roland UA-55 Quad-Capture does work with a linux system?
Best regards

You can create your own voices so the default voice should not be used as
the reference for a singing voice. Even then I was amazed by how close to
real it sounded for chanting emulation.

TTS is a huge research area.
Some people are putting their work online.

IIRC there is some very advanced open source voice synth software
originating in France. I can't recall the name of the institute who
sponsors the development but I'm sure there are others on this list who
know of it.

hey all first off i when i tried to start ardour it gave me an error message saying it couldn't start jack because of several possible reasons it also said some thing about memory allocation in the message does any one know what this problem is and how to solve it?
Secondly i inputted the below command into terminal for my ederol u a 25 and avid m box mini sound cards and got the below results:

does any one know what these errors given by terminal mean? and how to solve the problem?
Your help with these problems would be most welcome kind regards trahern.

I haven't heard of Autosampler until now, but this seems like an
appropriate time to bring up synthclone:
http://synthclone.googlecode.com/
... which has some similar features, is free, and has a plugin API
that allows a programmer to add missing functionality.

This is what we have discovered with free libraries like Sonatina --
the mappings are there but not much else (not even velocity layers),
many of the instruments don't even seem to work correctly with MIDI
CCs. They work OK in Linux Sampler, but are still pretty weak compared
to what is available commercially.

OK, thank you for clarifying.
So, what is desired is not a GTK application per se, but an application
which works correctly with the Orca screen reader software.
The Orca wiki (which has a disclaimer of being out of date) has this to say:
Orca works with applications and toolkits that support the assistive
technology service provider interface (AT-SPI)....
Applications and toolkits supporting the AT-SPI include the GNOME GTK+
toolkit, the Java platform's Swing toolkit, SWT, OpenOffice/LibreOffice,
Mozilla, and WebKitGtk.
According to the AT-SPI entry in wikipedia, support for AT-SPI is
included in:
GTK+ 2, Java/Swing, the Mozilla suite, StarOffice/OpenOffice.org and Qt 4.
So it appears that the possible solutions to the problem would be a GTK
application for starting and controlling jack (as originally requested), a
Java/Swing application to do the same, or help Rui make any changed needed
in qjackctl so that the AT-SPI support in Qt4 is utilized.
Possibly a variation on a GTK application would be something like PyGTK
which uses the GTK framework but from a language tailored to fast
development.
