Qtractor 0.9.2 - The Summer'18 Release

At last! Qtractor 0.9.2 (summer'18 beta) is released! Not much has changed but here's the change-log: - AppData/AppStream metadata is now settled under an all permisssive license (FSFAP); also updated to be the most compliant with latest freedesktop.org specification and recommendation. - Fix build for Qt >= 5.11.0 (by David Geiger, thanks); also for some g++ >= 8.1.1 warnings and quietness. Description: Qtractor [1] is an audio/MIDI multi-track sequencer application written in C++ with the Qt framework [2]. [ANN] Open Source Music FM Synthesizer Challenge starts September 15th, 2018

Calling out to all musicians and Open Source aficionados! Open Source Audio Meeting Cologne [1] proudly presents: The OPEN SOURCE MUSIC FM SYNTHESIZER CHALLENGE https://fmchallenge.osamc.de/ What: Install one or several of the Open Source FM Synthesizers we selected [2], make an awesome track using only these synthesizers as sound sources, upload [3] it to archive.org under a Creative Commons license and submit it [4] into the competition. When: The competition starts on *September 15th, 2018* and runs for one month until the end of *October 14th, 2018*. Who: *Everybody* (i.e. every natural person) can enter the competition. All selected synthesizers are Free Software [5] and getting started with music production using Open Source software [6] is easy and free to everyone! Winning: The winner of the competition is selected by *public vote* [7]. Voting starts on *October 15th, 2018* and is open for *ten days*. SpectMorph ships with many ready-to-use instruments which can be combined using morphing. GSequencer v2.0.0-beta available now

New features: * AgsWaveWindow - new wave form editor * AgsAudiorec - new built-in machine * AgsEqualizer10 - new built-in machine * AgsSpectrometer - new built-in machine Since February of this year, I was reworking the API almost every file was revisited. You got a new concurrent dispatcher. Thought not every aspect was tested, yet. Announcement: ICAD 2019 the 25th International Conference on Auditory Dislplay

It is a pleasure to announce ICAD 2019, the 25th International Conference on Auditory Display. The conference is hosted by the Department of Computer and Information Sciences, Northumbria University and will take place in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK on 23-27 June, 2019. The graduate student Think Tank (doctoral consortium) will be on Sunday, June 23, before the main conference. The theme of ICAD 2019 will be Sonification for Everyday Life Digital technology and artificial intelligence are becoming embedded in the objects all around us, from consumer products to the built environment. Everyday life happens where People, Technology, and Place intersect. Our activities and movements are increasingly sensed, digitised and tracked. Of course, the data generated by modern life is a hugely important resource not just for companies who use it for commercial purposes, but it can also be harnessed for the benefit of the individuals it concerns. Sonification research that has hit the news headlines in recent times has often been related to big science done at large publicly funded labs with little impact on the day-to-day lives of people. At ICAD 2019 we want to explore how auditory display technologies and techniques may be used to enhance our everyday lives. From giving people access to what’s going on inside their own bodies, to the human concerns of living in a modern networked and technological city, the range of opportunities for auditory display is wide. The ICAD 2019 committee is seeking papers, extended abstracts, multimedia, concert pieces, demos, installations, workshops, and tutorials that will contribute to knowledge of how sonification can support everyday life. ICAD is a highly interdisciplinary academic conference with relevance to researchers, practitioners, musicians, and students interested in the design of sounds to support tasks, improve performance, guide decisions, augment awareness, and enhance experiences. It is unique in its singular focus on auditory displays and the array of perception, technology, and application areas that this encompasses. Beast 0.12.0

To achieve that, a number of utilities from Rapicorn has to be integrated, which has made the code base a fair bit larger: 651 files changed, 75581 insertions(+), 44596 deletions(-) Most notably, this is the first release that installs the new ebeast UI. Tracks, piano rolls and dB meters are already displayed, but not much beyond that as it's still in pre-alpha stage. DrumGizmo 0.9.16 Released! DrumGizmo is an open source, multichannel, multilayered, cross-platform drum plugin and stand-alone application. It enables you to compose drums in midi and mix them with a multichannel approach. It is comparable to that of mixing a real drumkit that has been recorded with a multimic setup. This is mainly a bugfix release. If you encountered timing issues when using the humanizer features of 0.9.15, this is the release to get. It also optimizes the resampling and a bunch of other stuff. DrumGizmo 0.9.15 Release

DrumGizmo 0.9.15 Released! DrumGizmo is an open source, multichannel, multilayered, cross-platform drum plugin and stand-alone application. It enables you to compose drums in midi and mix them with a multichannel approach. It is comparable to that of mixing a real drumkit that has been recorded with a multimic setup. We didn't quite make the yearly LAC (Linux Audio Conference) schedule. But fret not, now it is here! The new 0.9.15 release is primed and ready for use. Loads of new stuff in this release. Most prominent is the new timing humanizer and the bleed control! The timing humanizer works in addition to the velocity humanizer. Where the velocity humanizer adjusts the velocity of incoming midi hits, the timing humanizer does the same thing but instead moves them back and forth in time. This all helps to achieve a less machine-sounding output. To help with the understanding of the humanizing features, we've also added a “visualizer” which will mirror the settings you choose for a better understanding. This is the first iteration of the visualizer, so feedback is very welcome. So what else? Oh yes, “bleed control”! And yep, it does exactly what you expect. If you want a dry sounding kit, turn that slider aaaall the way down. But if you want all of the ambience in there, turn it aaaall the way up. Bleed is when a hit on any drum is also picked up by mics that aren't the “primary” mic of that specific drum. For some genres bleed is unwanted. For others, not so much. And now YOU are in control. For the full list of changes, check the roadmap for 0.9.15 [2] A note on the bleed control: Currently only the newly updated CrocellKit v1.1 supports this [1].
