Hello,
I have some MIDI files that are apparently all broken in the same way - all
the tracks start 1/16 of a measure later than they should. It's important
because they will be used for making score representation (in Finale).
I found a way to fix this in RG, by selecting all segments (clicking on each)
and adjusting the segment start time. (Forry if I'm using the wrong terms -
my RG is in the Russian locale...)
But I'd like to do this automatically to a hundred files, without doing the
numerous clicks for each of them. Is there a way?
Also, when I import a MIDI file in RG, set the start time, and export it, the
tracks get renumbered (what was #1 becomes #3), and some instrument IDs are
lost. Is there a way to fix this? I can provide a MIDI file for testing the
behavious, if anyone is interested.

I'm having trouble getting my external MIDI ports to work again.
They worked fine in the morning, and now they're gone. I found
out that my MIDI ports were missing when I fired up Rosegarden and it
couldn't connect to any output ports. I googled, read manual pages
and FAQs, and searched through mailing list archives for nearly a day.
Coming up with nothing that helped, I'm hoping that some kind person
reading this could help me figure this out. Here are some details.
My loaded sound and/or MIDI related modules are these:
snd-seq-oss 27648 0
snd-seq-midi-event 4480 1 snd-seq-oss
snd-seq 40336 4 snd-seq-oss,snd-seq-midi-event
snd-pcm-oss 45992 0
snd-mixer-oss 16384 1 snd-pcm-oss
snd-ens1371 18020 0

snd-ac97-codec 59616 1 snd-ens1371
snd-pcm 68616 3 snd-pcm-oss,snd-ens1371,snd-ac97-codec
snd-timer 19204 2 snd-seq,snd-pcm
snd-page-alloc 6408 1 snd-pcm
gameport 2176 1 snd-ens1371
snd 38244 10 snd-seq-oss,snd-seq,snd-pcm-oss,\
snd-mixer-oss,snd-ens1371,snd-rawmidi,\
snd-seq-device,snd-ac97-codec,snd-pcm,\
snd-timer
soundcore 6112 2 snd,bttv
[I broke the "snd" module line above.]
The /proc files that seem important are these:
::::::::::::::
/proc/asound/version

I try to find ports like so:

0 'Timer '
1 'Announce '

What can I do better to debug this? Better yet, how can I fix it?
Thanks much....

I am helping at a Community Centre in Bristol, UK which is using Free
Software for everything (http://3ca.org.uk). Last weekend I
successfully managed to record 3.5 hours of live music using Adacity and
create a .ogg. I have never done anything like this before and am not a
sound engineer or musician. I am particularly impressed because I only
started looking for the software 3 hours before the doors opened.
Anyway this has sent me on a mad journey this week which has involved
building ardour/jack and jamin from source. I've never built anything
from source before. I am going to attempt to record another gig in a
couple of weeks using this combination. Anyway...
Firstly was wondering if there are any introduction texts for audio
mixing/mastering on the web anywhare, not nesseseraly related to this
software as I am a total beginner and want to understand the basics.
Secondly was wondering if there was any way of using audacity/jamin
together. Idealy I want to use ardour/jamin but audacity is a lot
simpler and is a good fallback.
Thirdly - and this is the most important question - any advide as to how
to master a deck mix for recording/streaming. I am planing to use jamin
to do this but general advice/other options also good.
Regards,
Ben

Hi,
Todays selection will be brought to you from a working
server. Unlike the one I released yesterday which will
be rectified later tonight.
This is straight up jazz. It was recorded live in a
bar. I basically brought my Linux studio to the bar
and ran a split snake into the basement where I setup
a temporary control room. I used Ardour to record and
mix. Then used Ardour and JAMin for the mastering.
This is not the final mix but it's good enough for a
demo. It's another one of my less than 60 minute
meatball engineering jobs.
A final mix and master will be released as audio and
audio video. That production will be available for use
by anyone that needs to show Linux audio tools in
action. This version is not intended to be used for
demonstrations. This is just for our listening
pleasure.

oggenc at less than -q 10 is producing clips. This
file is -q 10 and consequently it weighs in around
22Mb. If you can't deal with it, tough encoding. Well,
I'll make a smaller one but it's really low on the
priority list.

Hi!
I've just one important - for me at least - question. Can the jack example
client be used without gui? Can it be used with midi only?
Thanks!
Kindest regards

Hi, I've got the following problem with a M-AUDIO Delta 1010 card.
This card uses an ICE1712(envy24) chipset.
When i insert a 5khz sinus of about 0,4V Um on Capture channel 1 under
windows. I see that in the mixer pannel all green lights are lid.
But when i do the same test onder linux based upon the alsa drivers, libs,
utils version 0.98 to 1,07.
I only see 1/3 to 1/2 of the signal under the envy24controll mixer.
I've done this test with 3 different sound cards 2 rev C and 1 rev D card.
I've tested the input level on a 6 card, which is working fine under linux
with alsa driver 0.98 and there the input level matches the input level under
our windows system.
Tests i Allready did
Playing with the sliders of the envy24control mixer.
Trying a new soundcard.
dumping and restoring the asound.state file of a working card with alsactl
Switching the hard drive of working system with a not working system, this
actualy made the problem worse, since i now have two system where the card
ain't working under linux but works fine under windows.
...
So, My question now.
How do increase the input level gain of the M-AUDIO DELTA 1010?

Agreed. Does anybody else volunteer?

hi all ...
since there are some snd experts on this list ... one question ...
when changing the listener-text-color, the color of the blinking cursor
in the listener doesn't change ... is it possible to do link the color
of the cursor with the color of the text or set it somewhere else?
thanks ... tim
