I gave up trying to make a headless softsynth out of it, because it wouldn't boot off of a USB flash drive. Now that I have the Atom-based EEE, that's working out rather well as a portable softsynth, so I'm trying to find another use for the Micro-ITX since it's been sitting around unused for many mohths.

Hi Ken and Dave,
I was in your position several months ago. I upgraded to Lenny repos
and now have a stable, current 64studio system for work with my
audiofire2 (which is right now under warranty repair...). You can see
the process here:
http://www.64studio.com/node/586
and then here:
http://www.64studio.com/node/599
Let me know if you have any questions, etc! but the process itself
was just another step, and some additional troubleshooting for my
laptop (mostly the synaptics touchpad), so hopefully it is also
straightforward for you, too!
cheers,
ethan

I use Gentoo and have just ordered a Focusrite Saffire.. Will either the gentoo
kernel or the rt patched gentoo kernel (from the pro-audio) overlay have these
issues?

Hi,
situation: M-audio 1010LT with a defective output 0 cable, and I've
been trying to
get alsa to send output on 2&3 as I only have 2 speakers. I could do
this windows by
setting the default output of the device in sound control panel but I'm
at a loss for linux (suse 10.3). Can this be done using
envy24control? (how?)
help please -- I'm completely baffled!
thanx,

* Removed timer process testing. This was only a problem with older 2.6
kernels. (think it was fixed early 2006 or thereabout). No scary
messages …
[View More]printed to the screen anymore.
* Tested on Fedora core 10.
* Cleaned up documentation a bit and added instructions for installing on
Fedora, Gentoo and Debian.

Hey guys,
so i was doing some recording on the weekend and thought latest
upgrade must have broken something, but on more extensive testing, by
pressing all the buttons in echomixer i found... That i can use all
sample rates when i don't have phantom power on, but only 32 khz when
i do! Is this a hardware or a software bug? Is 2 things getting
switched when i turn phantom power on/off? I've got no idea how this
can happen, but it does make using my condenser mic hard!

That's my guess too Phillip. Right now, i'm just trying to discern the
pattern. I have a 24/88 4 channel album that plays fine in everything. It's
this Lord of the Rings in 24/88 6-channel that is the pain.
Now, loading these files into an editor like …
[View More]kwav and playing them there? No
problem .
A thought i had was that mplayer and xine all use ffmpeg and it might be a
problem with that library. However, the file crashes alsaplayer, xmms and even
flac123 too. So much for that theory.
I'm pretty sure that it's not a hardware problem. though.
Thanks for all the input folks.

Hi list,
By trying to compile a new alsa-driver-1.0.19 from source on a machine
with a generic Debian kernel 2.6.24 including ALSA driver 1.0.16, I
recently managed to trash ALSA on that machine.
I had been optimistic by just doing to usual configure/make/make install
without caring about the existing ALSA driver. This resulted in the
following error message when trying to load the snd_hdsp module aftrwards:
FATAL: Error inserting snd_hdsp
(/lib/modules/2.6.24-1-686/kernel/sound/pci/…
[View More]rme9652/snd-hdsp.ko):
Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
FATAL: Error running install command for snd_hdsp
And here is the output of dmesg:
snd_hwdep: disagrees about version of symbol snd_info_register
snd_hwdep: Unknown symbol snd_info_register
snd_hwdep: disagrees about version of symbol snd_info_create_module_entry
snd_hwdep: Unknown symbol snd_info_create_module_entry
snd_hwdep: disagrees about version of symbol snd_info_free_entry
snd_hwdep: Unknown symbol snd_info_free_entry
snd_hwdep: disagrees about version of symbol snd_unregister_oss_device
snd_hwdep: Unknown symbol snd_unregister_oss_device
snd_hwdep: Unknown symbol snd_verbose_printk
snd_hwdep: disagrees about version of symbol snd_register_oss_device
[... and so on for many more symbols...]
This output suggests to me that there were still remains of the old
1.0.16 driver floating around, causing a versioning conflict.
What measures can be taken before compiling the new driver in order to
avoid this situation? Or in other words: do I need to get rid of the
ALSA driver that came with a generic kernel before compiling a new one,
and if so, how do I do it?
best,
flo.H
P.S.:
I also found this:
http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php/TroubleShooting#When_loading_modules.2C_i….
but unfortunately cannot check 'lsmod', since I have purged the
respective kernel :-(

Say, I want to connect first pair of software out channels to SPDIF-out
channels. I click on drop-down list below "Out 1" label and select appropriate
checkbox. But nothing happens, the checkbox remains unselevted. HDSP 9632 is
in use.
Am I the only such unhappy? :-)
Hi all,
Just for the record (of a slightly old thread):
It seems that the weird hdspmixer routing, which experienced with my
Multiface I and Cardbus card and described here on the 22nd of January,
disappeared after a kernel upgrade from 2.6.24 to 2.6.26. Thanks to
Karsten and Marc-Olivier for pointing me into this direction (see
below), and thanks also to Tim for his contribution.
As on the 2.6.24 kernel, the version of the ALSA driver I am using is
still 1.0.16 (the one which came with …
[View More]the kernel), and the ALSA firmware
version is still 1.0.19 (as compiled back then by myself).
The 2.6.26 kernel I am using now is a standard Debian kernel, which I
got in the course of a system upgrade.
best,
flo.H
