Hi,
I just bought an Audiophile 2496. Unfortunately, it does not work as
well as I imagined. Here are the symptoms :
* Simple listening (no jack, just alsa):
- when I route PCM outs directly to HW outs, I here "cracks" on the
right side (I don't know the precise english word to describe the
noise, see below for example)
- if I switch the RCA cables, the cracks change side
- when I route the digital mix to HW out, I don't hear cracks
* Recording (jack, no xruns):
- I can record my guitar (I use the RCA analog in)
- I still hear the cracks while I play and in the recorded sound
(example :http://manu.mindslicer.com/export.wav). These cracks are
very similar to what I hear when I listen music without jack (with PCM
out -> HW out).
I tried with different sets of cables and headphones.
What do you think ? From what I heard, I doubt it is a
software-related problem. A lot of people use the Audiophile without
problem. Moreover, switching the RCAs switches the side of the cracks.
I just wanted to have your opinion before sending the card back. Could
it be a configuration issue ? Is it a problem with the
chair-to-keyboard interface ?
Thanks in advance for all the advices you can give me.
Cheers,
Manu

Arch Linux 64 bits (Intel Core i5, 4 Gb RAM)
M-Audio Audiophile 2496
alsa 1.0.24
envy24control 0.6.0
jack2 1.9.6
qjackctl 0.3.7
I think this might have something to do with kdenlive needing to use ALSA
(not pulse) and pulse running all the time in kxstudio.
?
When I import an .ogv to the stage the audio is a stuttering, digital mess.
My first inclination is to attempt to stop the pulse daemon from running so
ALSA can do its thing.
Would this be a step in the right direction?
Thanks.

Hey! I recorded some loops today to make clicktracks and to play along
with. I decided to go on a different approach this time, that's what I
mean with 'semilooped'. Only the ride and hihat are longer loops(4bars)
and the kick and snare is single hits and separate for better
flexibility. I only made basic patterns tho as this package is mostly
meant for creating custom playalong/click tracks. I thought I'd share it
tho as it seems to be quite flexible to stretching and better for
playalong fun than the last drumloop library I did. I haven't tried them
all tho ,so there might be some flaws..
No EQ's, I'll let the user do that.. again for flexibility
All samples are Stereo(48khz24bitFLAC), since the sound of the kick
naturally leaks in the overheads and the overheads are a big part of the
snare sound. So I suggest you use only stereo tracks. The kit also has a
more jazzy sound this time around.

I'll put it up to freesound too once they accept my files.
Happy looping!
I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to get ams to respond to velocity
midi messages. I can see the velocity socket on the MCV module but can't see
how to connect this in a way that will control the velocity of the note.
Any ideas?
KXStudio allowes to change default alsa "bridge" - either PA (as used at most) or jack (jack plugin).

thanks for the help - the magic workaround worked for building the plugs :)
I'm assuming that everything needs to move to the proper locations
indicated by the file structure in the debian directory
so...
/home/kim/Desktop/downloads/jeremysalwen-So-synth-LV2-e399ee2/debian/so-synth-lv2/usr/lib/lv2/
copies to:
/usr/lib/lv2/
and
/home/kim/Desktop/downloads/jeremysalwen-So-synth-LV2-e399ee2/debian/so-synth-lv2/usr/share/doc/
goes into /usr/share/doc/
which I did
-----------------------------------
next I tested it by
launching Qtractor 0.4.8
creating a track
added the LV2 SO-666 plug
and immediately the app crashed
also, tried with the bass and piano plugs following the same procedure
and the same thing happened
report from syslog:
kim-studio kernel: qtractor[12969]: segfault at 10 ip b366cde0 sp

thanks! will download the new Qtractor and check it out
and yes the midi track allowed me to instantiate the midi plug
but wasn't able to get sound out of it
at some point I'll get it working
:)
Y-ellow Lady and Gentlemen.
OK, it's been a long time in coming but I have an audigy 2. So
basically... How do you get it to actually work?
I've tried lots of distros and to be honest, all of them have problems. So
whilst one of them might actually be better than what I'm using, I have no
idea how to tell. Currently the only thing I found where most things
actually worked is TangoStudio. Though to be honest, I hate gnome. And
Ubuntu for that matter. But the networking works. Most of the audio works.
Although trying to install the linux sampler project failed miserably. And
to be honest, after 3 months of mind numbing research, I'm sick of it all.
That said. I've got this Audigy 2. Jack can see the synth's MIDI input but
apart from that, nothing else. There appears to be no control over any of
it's audio and no software to drive the synth. I did a search but that only
left me wondering if it's usability under linux was in fact a myth. So
before I go any further, I thought I'd poke my head in here and see what
the collective wisdom was.
I'm happy to install any other distro if there's one that comes with Audigy
stuff already installed but I don't want to go play distro roulette again
if I can possible help it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Be absolutely icebox.

Hey Q!
Why not use prebuilt software from your distro? I think you don't need
any new features for your purpose. and I suppose, that one of them should be
available on your distro.
Warmly yours
